Perhaps we have reached the point where it is time to reconsider yet again provincial society's character, the nature of the Revolution (even revisiting the old argument about its revolutionary character may be in order), and, as Downes has tried to do, unpack what is meant by democracy.

Ancient alchemy can be defined as the “art” (τέχνη) of transforming matter through a specific set of dyeing technologies, which were devised by ancient practitioners in their workshops. This craft is often referred to as a “sacred and divine art” in Byzantine anthologies of alchemical texts transmitted in Greek manuscripts.

The controversy about the choice among accounting alternatives is often based on arguments suggesting heuristic behaviour by market participants and firm managers. Debates focus on whether accounting methodology systematically alters reported earnings and whether this effect may add or subtract economic value independently of any effect on underlying ...

This paper presents an overview of Alchemy, an experimental drawing application aimed at exploring how we can sketch, draw, and create on computers in new ways. Alchemy focuses on the absolute initial stage of the creative process, to provide an expanded range of possibilities for serendipitous sketching and shape creation.

Alchemy now holds an important place in the history of science. Its current status contrasts with its former exile as a "pseudoscience" or worse and results from several rehabilitative steps carried out by scholars who made closer, less programmatic, and more innovative studies of the documentary sources.

This paper summarises \textit{S. Kripke}'s account [in: Wittgenstein on rules and private language, Cambridge UP (1982)] of Wittgenstein's private language argument. Next it expounds Wittgenstein's later philosophy of mathematics, in which the validity of a proof is a sociological matter (acceptance by the community of mathematicians) and the proof ...

Alloy specifications are used to define lightweight models of systems. We present Alchemy, which compiles Alloy specifications into implementations that execute against persistent databases. Alchemy translates a subset of Alloy predicates into imperative update operations, and it converts facts into database integrity constraints that it maintains ...
