Cyanobacteria in microbialites of Alchichica Crater Lake: a polyphasic characterization

European Journal of Phycology, 2021
We analysed and characterized the cyanobacteria in microbialites of Alchichica crater lake over a depth gradient, from 3 to 30 m.

Chironomus alchichica sp. n. (Diptera: Chironomidae) from Lake Alchichica, Mexico

Zootaxa, 2017
Morphological analysis of all developmental stages (except female), mitochondrial DNA sequences from cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (cox1) and cytological analysis of the polytene chromosomes were used to describe a new species of Chironomus found in the littoral and profundal zones of an endorheic, warm-monomictic lake in Mexico.

Poblana alchichica: A threatened silverside species?

SIL Proceedings, 1922-2010, 2010
The status of local endemic species such as Poblana alchichica is difficult to assess, and therefore conservation measures are not efficiently implemented. However, in recent years several methods have helped compare status of different species based on objective criteria.

Stromatolites in Crater-Lake Alchichica and Bacalar Lagoon

2020
Extant stromatolites have been considered ecological similes to their ancient counterparts. We now know that these microbial assemblages are composed of a great diversity of microbes, which couple and intertwine their metabolic capabilities to create self-sustained microbial ecosystems.

Initial field data for the Critically Endangered Alchichica salamander Ambystoma taylori from Lago Alchichica, Mexico

The Herpetological Bulletin
The Lake Alchichica salamander Ambystoma taylori is a Critically Endangered, neotenic inhabitant of a single, hyposaline lake in Puebla, Mexico. Between 2015 and 2018, initial field data were collected for this understudied species, to inform future conservation action. Using unbaited submerged passive traps at depths of 0–<10, 10–<20 and 20–30 m,

Nitrogen fixation patterns displayed by cyanobacterial consortia in Alchichica crater-lake, Mexico

Hydrobiologia, 2002
Alchichica is a saline crater-lake located in Mexico. Tufa grows on its periphery and a wind-driven Nodularia cf. spumigena bloom occurs annually. Fixation rates were assayed by the acetylene reduction method. Here, we describe the patterns of nitrogen fixation on two tufa forms before, during and after the bloom, as well as those from the planktonic ...

Late Pleistocene to Holocene activity of Alchichica maar volcano, eastern Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt

Journal of South American Earth Sciences, 2020
Abstract Detailed volcano-stratigraphy and 40Ar/39Ar dating are used for the first time to reconstruct the eruptive evolution of the Alchichica maar and to contribute to the understanding of maar volcanism within the eastern Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt (TMVB).
