Asian Drinking Cultures in New Zealand: A Scoping Review

open access: yesSAGE Open, 2022
Alcohol use causes harm across most populations. However, comparatively little research and policy attention has been paid to drinking cultures among Asian people.

Integrated Metallo‐Dielectric 3D Hotspots From High Refractive Index Nanodiamond‐Plasmonic Gold Cryosoret Nano‐Assemblies for Photonic Crystal Enhanced Fluorescence

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents a novel sensing platform using metallo‐dielectric cryosoret nano‐assemblies and lossless photonic crystals to overcome limitations of conventional plasmonic biosensors. The hybrid system enhances both electric and magnetic field interactions, enabling amplified fluorescence, ultralow detection limits, and prism‐free, objective‐free ...

Tailoring the Properties of Functional Materials With N‐Oxides

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The properties of materials bearing N‐oxide groups are often dominated by the polar N+─O− bond. It provides hydrophilicity, selective ion‐binding, electric conductivity, or antifouling properties. Many of the underlying mechanisms have only recently been discovered, and the interest in N‐oxide materials is rapidly growing.

Advancing from MOFs and COFs to Functional Macroscopic Porous Constructs

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This review study investigates the recent progress and methodologies for manufacturing metal–organic framework (MOF) or covalent–organic framework (COF)‐based 3D structured macroscopic porous constructs with high structural integrity, providing the possibility to control their porosity across dimensions.

Age at first alcohol use predicts current alcohol use, binge drinking and mixing of alcohol with energy drinks among Ontario Grade 12 students in the COMPASS study

open access: yesHealth Promotion and Chronic Disease Prevention in Canada, 2019
Introduction: This study investigates the influence of age at first use of alcohol on current alcohol use and associated behaviours in a large sample of Canadian youth.

Hierarchically MOF‐Based Porous Monolith Composites for Atmospheric Water Harvesting

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This review explores the design of hierarchical porous materials for atmospheric water harvesting, focusing on metal‐organic frameworks (MOFs) and porous monoliths. Emphasis is placed on integrating MOF nanoscale porosity with the microscale channels of monolithic scaffolds to enhance sorption‐desorption performance.

State‐of‐the‐Art, Insights, and Perspectives for MOFs‐Nanocomposites and MOF‐Derived (Nano)Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Different approaches to MOF‐NP composite formation, such as ship‐in‐a‐bottle, bottle‐around‐the‐ship and in situ one‐step synthesis, are used. Owing to synergistic effects, the advantageous features of the components of the composites are beneficially combined, and their individual drawbacks are mitigated.

Decoupling Transport of Salt Ions and Water in Hierarchically Structured Hydrogel for High Salinity Desalination

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A hierarchically structured hydrogel evaporator enables controlled decoupling of salt‐ion and water transport pathways for efficient solar desalination in hypersaline environments. Engineered radial and vertical channels direct salt away from the evaporative interface, enhancing water evaporation and ambient energy harvesting via a cold‐surface effect.

Dataset on perception of public college students on underage drinking in Nigeria

open access: yesData in Brief, 2019
Alcohol is the most widely used substance of abuse among youths in Nigeria. Underage drinking poses a serious public health problem in most colleges and despite the health and safety risk, consumption of alcohol is rising.

Deter the emotions: Alexithymia, impulsivity and their relationship to binge drinking

open access: yesAddictive Behaviors Reports, 2020
Introduction: The relevance of both emotion processing and impulsivity to alcohol use and misuse is increasingly recognised, yet there is a scarcity of studies addressing their reciprocal interaction.
