TRANSPLACENTAL ALCOHOL INTOXICATION

The world literature contains few reports of infants born while intoxicated by alcohol. I describe the clinical course of such a child who had a high blood alcohol concentration on delivery, and exhibited features of acute alcohol withdrawal in the days after birth.

[Paroxystic alcohol intoxications].

Paroxystic alcohol intoxications are classically defined by the alternation of acute and massive intoxications and abstinence periods but occur mostly in chronically drinking patients. Loss of control, sensation seeking and impulsivity are common features of these disorders that are often associated with multiple drug use.
