Core and occasional species: A new way forward

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 11, Issue 15, Page 10547-10565, August 2021., 2021
This paper describes a novel method of dividing ecological communities into species groups based on their relative abundance. It builds on the core–occasional species concept but tackles grouping of species in a completely new, more objective way, with no a priori assumption of the number of groups in a community.

Diversity and phylogenetic community structure across elevation during climate change in a family of hyperdiverse neotropical beetles (Staphylinidae)

open access: yesEcography, Volume 44, Issue 5, Page 740-752, May 2021., 2021
Environmental stress from abiotic conditions imposes physiological limits on individuals within communities, and these stressful conditions can act as a filter on the species present in any given environment. Such abiotic stressors can reduce a community's diversity and make its composition more phylogenetically clustered. Using a decade of staphylinid

Revision of the Oriental species of the genus Gnypetalia new status (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Aleocharinae), with a discussion of its phylogenetic relationships

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Entomology, 2005
The subgenus Gnypetalia Cameron, 1939 is redefined and raised to the genus rank. Eleven valid species are recognised in the genus, six of which are described as new: Gnypetalia armata sp. n. (Solomon Islands), G. cuccodoroi sp. n. (Philippines: Luzon), G.

Patterns of richness across forest beetle communities—A methodological comparison of observed and estimated species numbers

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 11, Issue 1, Page 626-635, January 2021., 2021
The observed number of beetle species considerably under‐represents species richness and the number of shared species between strata and tree species in the Leipzig floodplain forest. Still, richness ranking patterns based on the number of observed species are largely reliable.

A New Species and New Records for the Subfamily Aleocharinae from Turkey [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Insect Science, 2013
In this study, a new Aleocharinae (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae) species from Turkey, Gyrophaena cagatay sp. n. (Aksaray), is described and illustrated. In addition, new records are presented for seven species: Atheta hygrotopora (Kraatz, 1856), Atheta incognita (Sharp, 1869), Atheta ripicola Hanssen, 1932, Brachyusa concolor Erichson, 1839, Ischnopoda ...

The Tachyusa coarctata species group revisited: Phylogenetic relationships and a new species (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Aleocharinae)

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Entomology, 2010
The Tachyusa coarctata species group is revised. The species group is defined on the basis of the distinctly asperate punctation on elytra, the dense punctation on tergites III-V with interstices between punctures 1.5-2.0 times their diameter, and the ...

Diversity of Insect Flower Visitors of Xylopia aromatica (Magnoliales, Annonaceae) in a Brazilian Savanna

open access: yesDiversity, 2021
Small beetles are important pollinators of Annonaceae whose flower chambers are small and have diurnal and/or nocturnal anthesis. The pollinators of these flowers belong to the families Nitidulidae, Staphylinidae, Chrysomelidae, and Curculionidae.
