A cross‐sectional study of avian influenza A virus in Myanmar live bird markets: Detection of a newly introduced H9N2?

open access: yesInfluenza and Other Respiratory Viruses, Volume 17, Issue 2, February 2023., 2023
Abstract Background Zoonotic influenza surveillance in Myanmar is sparse, despite the risks of introduction of such viruses from neighboring countries that could impact the poultry industry and lead to spillover to humans. Methods In July and August 2019, our multi‐institutional partnership conducted a One Health‐oriented, cross‐sectional surveillance (

Risk factors for systemic reactions in typical cold urticaria: Results from the COLD‐CE study

open access: yesAllergy, Volume 77, Issue 7, Page 2185-2199, July 2022., 2022
The COLD‐CE study was carried out at 32 UCAREs from 19 countries and four continents. Among 551 ColdU patients, 75% had positive local CST (i.e., typical ColdU) and ColdA occurred in 37% of the latter. For the first time, we propose the criteria for adrenaline autoinjector prescription for patients with typical ColdU.Abbreviations: ColdA, cold‐induced ...

Allergens and their associated small molecule ligands—their dual role in sensitization

open access: yesAllergy, Volume 76, Issue 8, Page 2367-2382, August 2021., 2021
Abstract Many allergens feature hydrophobic cavities that allow the binding of primarily hydrophobic small‐molecule ligands. Ligand‐binding specificities can be strict or promiscuous. Serum albumins from mammals and birds can assume multiple conformations that facilitate the binding of a broad spectrum of compounds.

A guide to measuring phagosomal dynamics

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, Volume 288, Issue 5, Page 1412-1433, March 2021., 2021
After cargo engulfment by phagocytic cells, phagosomes sequentially undergo maturation and resolution in a labyrinth journey that involves crosstalk with the endolysosomal system, as well as other organelles and cellular pathways. In this guide, we discuss different methodologies to study this dynamic process, highlighting their advantages and ...

In Vitro Cultivation of the Syphilis Spirochete Treponema pallidum

open access: yesCurrent Protocols, Volume 1, Issue 2, February 2021., 2021
Abstract For over a century, investigation of Treponema pallidum subsp. pallidum, the spiral‐shaped bacterium that causes syphilis, was hindered by an inability to culture the organism in vitro. A recent breakthrough has enabled continuous in vitro growth of this organism in co‐culture with mammalian tissue culture cells.
