Salicylic Acid Mitigates Lead-Induced Stress in the Endangered Shrub Cistus heterophyllus subsp. carthaginensis

open access: yesAgronomy
Lead (Pb) contamination severely threatens plant health and biodiversity, particularly in mining-affected ecosystems. The phytohormone, salicylic acid (SA), plays a crucial role in regulating plant stress responses. Here, the effect of SA supplementation

Drought-Adaptive Mechanisms of Young Sweet Cherry Trees in Response to Withholding and Resuming Irrigation Cycles

open access: yesAgronomy, 2021
The present work evaluates the main adaptive mechanisms developed by young sweet cherry trees (Prunus avium L.) to cope with drought. For this purpose, the young trees were subjected to two drought cycles with different water stress intensities followed ...

Rat models of fetal alcohol spectrum disorders for studying the critical role of cerebellar damage: A scoping review

open access: yesAlcohol, Clinical and Experimental Research, Volume 49, Issue 9, Page 1855-1876, September 2025.
In rat models used to study the effects of early alcohol exposure on cerebellum function and structure during pregnancy and lactation, the following conclusions can be drawn: (1) Exposure to ethanol during the first and second‐trimester equivalent in humans affects biochemical pathways in the cerebellum, but produces fewer structural changes.

A Minimum Cost Design Approach for Steel Frames Based on a Parallelized Firefly Algorithm and Parameter Control

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
In this work, the applicability of a Firefly Algorithm (FA) to the real problem of the minimum cost of a detailed design for steel frames is studied. To reduce the calculation time, which is a common problem of meta-heuristic algorithms when they are ...

Group-quantization of non-linear sigma models: particle on S^2 revisited

open access: yes, 2008
We present the quantum mechanics of "partial-trace" non-linear sigma models, on the grounds of a fully symmetry-based procedure. After the general scheme is sketched, the particular example of a particle on the two-sphere is explicitly developed.

Effect of the Cathodic Gas Diffusion Layer on the Performance of a Proton Exchange Membrane Electrolyzer

open access: yesEnergies
Hydrogen production through electrolysis using renewable resources is highly promising for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. While significant efforts have focused on developing more efficient and cost-effective catalysts to lower hydrogen production ...

GROWING THE ENDANGERED SPECIES Astragalus nitidiflorus IN THE NURSERY: FERTILIZATION RATE AFFECTS GROWTH, AND LEAF NUTRIENT AND CHLOROPHYLL CONTENTS

open access: yesActa Scientiarum Polonorum: Hortorum Cultus, 2019
Astragalus nitidiflorus is an endangered legume endemic to the southeast of the Iberian Peninsula. This species develops symbiotic relationships with N-fixing bacteria. However, the problem of isolating its rhizobia has not been solved.

Sampling Theorem and Discrete Fourier Transform on the Riemann Sphere [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Using coherent-state techniques, we prove a sampling theorem for Majorana's (holomorphic) functions on the Riemann sphere and we provide an exact reconstruction formula as a convolution product of $N$ samples and a given reconstruction kernel (a sinc ...

Playing by the Rules: Is Business Formality Driving Economic Growth? Evidence From Colombia's Capital Cities

open access: yesGrowth and Change, Volume 56, Issue 2, June 2025.
ABSTRACT This paper contributes to the literature on the effects of institutions on economic growth by addressing a topic that has been little explored. Specifically, it uses Colombia's capital cities as a case study for the period 2007–2020 to examine the impact of business formality on local economic performance.
