Algal biomass dehydration

Bioresource Technology, 2013
Biofuels are viewed as promising alternatives to conventional fossil fuels because they have the potential to eliminate major environmental problems created by fossil fuels. Among the still developing biofuel technologies, biodiesel production from algae offers a greater prospect for large-scale practical use, as algae are capable of producing much ...

Pyrolysis of algal biomass

Journal of Analytical and Applied Pyrolysis, 2013
a b s t r a c t The pyrolysis of algal (Laminaria digitata, Fucus serratus and mix macroalgae species from Black sea) and lignocellulosic (safflower oil cake and grape seed) biomasses was studied at 500 ◦C in a fluidized bed reactor. The yields of pyrolysis products (char, liquid and gas) were quantified.

Production of Algal Biomass

2014
Among renewable resources, algae have proven to be an attractive feedstock for rapid generation of carbohydrates and lipids by utilizing its photosynthetic ability to present itself as an alternative energy source. Different species of algae, being environmental friendly, are strong candidates for generation of biomass, and are used in production of ...

The Advancement of Algal Biomass: A Review

Advanced Materials Research, 2013
Renewable energy sources such as biomass are becoming more and more important as alternative to fossil fuels. One of the most exciting new sources of biomass is microalgae. One of the major obstacles in the commercial production of microalgae as feedstock for biomass-to-liquid fuels, is the development of energy efficient and cost effective harvesting ...

Algal biomass anaerobic biodegradability

Journal of Applied Phycology, 2012
We conducted a series of biodegradation studies using microalgae (Arthrospira maxima and Nannochloropsis sp.) and macroalgae (Gelidium corneum and Cladophora glomerata) to elucidate algal biodegradability in wastewater sludge under anaerobic conditions. Algal biodegradability was evaluated according to ASTM D5210-92. The results indicate that A. maxima

Using Algal Biomass as a Fertilizer

2018
Algae can be used in a variety of wastewater systems to capture nutrients while fixing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. I conducted field trials at three locations in Oregon with both corn and potato crops to assess the agronomic value and environmental impact of using the resulting algal biomass as a fertilizer.

Copper desorption from Gelidium algal biomass

Water Research, 2007
Desorption of divalent copper from marine algae Gelidium sesquipedale, an algal waste (from agar extraction industry) and a composite material (the algal waste immobilized in polyacrylonitrile) was studied in a batch system. Copper ions were first adsorbed until saturation and then desorbed by HNO(3) and Na(2)EDTA solutions.
