Plasma Conversion of C, N2 and H2O into HCN and CO at Atmospheric Pressure and Near Ambient Temperature: Towards Oxamide Fertilisers?

open access: yesChemistryEurope, Volume 4, Issue 4, April 2026.
Electric Alchemy! The synergistic combination of xerogel additives with non‐thermal plasma allows direct reaction of elemental nitrogen, a carbon source and water resulting in the formation of appreciable HCN and CO mixtures under near ambient conditions.

Enhancing Biomethane Generation From Eutrophic Water Harvested Algal Biomass Through Combined Pretreatment Strategy

open access: yesChemistry–Methods, Volume 6, Issue 4, April 2026.
This work presents the effect of combined surfactant and ultrasonic pretreatment on increasing the hydrolytic potential of mixed microalgae harvested from eutrophic water for bioenergy generation. Pretreatment enhances the solubilization and biomethane production; however, it still faces challenges in full‐scale application. Algal blooms resulting from

Species‐Specific Response of Fish Health Condition to Nutrient Enrichment in Subtropical Rivers

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 4, April 2026.
Fish condition factor (K) can be used to evaluate the effects of eutrophication. Species‐specific responses of fish K to nutrient enrichment were detected. Nutrient enrichment significantly enhanced the K value of zooplanktivorous fish, while it did not affect the K value of omnivorous fish.

Gene‐to‐Population Level Responses to Multiple Stressors on the Rocky Shore

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 4, April 2026.
This experiment employs an in situ field experiment on a rocky shore to test how simulated warming and ambient sewage‐associated nutrient pollution independently and interactively affect ecological responses from gene expression to functional‐group dynamics across a summer season.

Physiological Impacts of a Newly Discovered Trematode Parasite on Its Host, the Bay Scallop (Argopecten irradians)

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 4, April 2026.
A novel parasite, Saccularina sp., has been observed infecting the gills of bay scallops, Argopecten irradians, inhabiting the North Carolina coast and the Gulf Coast of Florida. Previous research has identified Saccularina sp. as a well‐established parasite in both wild and aquaculture populations of bay scallops throughout North Carolina, but the ...
