Integrative taxonomy reveals a new species of the soapfish genus Rypticus (Teleostei: Grammistidae) from the eastern Atlantic Ocean

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, Volume 107, Issue 5, Page 1543-1552, November 2025.
Abstract A new species of the soapfish genus Rypticus is described based on 14 specimens from the eastern Atlantic Ocean. The new species was previously misidentified as the greater soapfish, R. saponaceus, due to their similar appearance. However, it differs from R.

A Long‐Standing Taxonomic Puzzle: Species Delimitation and Phylogenetic Analysis Reveal New Findings in Neogoniolithon (Spongitidaceae, Corallinophycidae and Rhodophyta) From the Southwestern Atlantic

open access: yesAquatic Conservation: Marine and Freshwater Ecosystems, Volume 35, Issue 10, October 2025.
ABSTRACT In the first study on Neogoniolithon species for the Southwestern Atlantic Ocean, based on both molecular (COI‐5P, psbA and SSU rDNA) and morpho‐anatomical data, three taxa were identified for the Brazilian coast, including two new species. DNA‐based species delimitation methods distinguished Neogoniolithon crypticum sp. nov.

Water quality management strategies for super‐intensive culture of Penaeus vannamei with biofloc system: A case study in Virginia, USA

open access: yesJournal of the World Aquaculture Society, Volume 56, Issue 4, August 2025.
Abstract The aim of this case study was to investigate and describe water quality and growth performance of Penaeus vannamei produced in a super‐intensive biofloc system (BFT) under diverse water conditions (seawater and low‐salinity water) in the state of Virginia, USA.

Living Under Pressure: Suitable Areas for an Endangered Coastal Dolphin Overlap With Intense Human Activities

open access: yesAquatic Conservation: Marine and Freshwater Ecosystems, Volume 35, Issue 6, June 2025.
ABSTRACT Marine ecosystems, especially coastal ones, are experiencing increased pressure from human activities. The first step to develop effective and appropriate management strategies is to understand the underlying processes of species distribution.

Polissacarídeos sulfatados isolados das clorofíceas Caulerpa racemosa e Caulerpa cupressoides – extração, fracionamento e atividade anticoagulante - doi: 10.4025/actascibiolsci.v32i2.5923

open access: yesActa Scientiarum: Biological Sciences, 2010
A incidência de doenças cardiovasculares e os efeitos adversos da heparinoterapia têm motivado a busca por novos agentes terapêuticos e os polissacarídeos sulfatados (PS) de algas marinhas têm sido reportados como fontes alternativas para tal.

Benthic Observation Survey System (BOSS) for surveys of marine benthic habitats

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 6, Page 1116-1125, June 2025.
Abstract Most platforms for collecting images to characterise marine benthic habitats involve a downward or forward‐facing field of view that is relatively constrained (~70°), covering a relatively small area of benthos (downward ~1 m2, forward ~25 m2).

A Common Terminology to Unify Research and Conservation of Coralline Algae and the Habitats They Create

open access: yesAquatic Conservation: Marine and Freshwater Ecosystems, Volume 35, Issue 3, March 2025.
ABSTRACT Linguistic uncertainty is a prime source of uncertainty pervading ecology and conservation. Coralline algae are a widespread and diverse group of calcifying red macroalgae that underpin coastal ecosystem function and service provision. Recent increasing interest in coralline algae in the scientific literature has revealed a diverse but ...
