Rhodolith Beds in Brazil—A Natural Heritage in Need of Conservation
ABSTRACT Aim Brazil harbours the largest known extent of rhodolith beds (RBs) in the world, a habitat whose ecological and economic importance have been widely overlooked. This creates a dire situation that is likely to worsen with the rapidly expanding human activities, considering that less than 5% of Brazil's ocean area is fully protected.

FreshLanDiv: A Global Database of Freshwater Biodiversity Across Different Land Uses
ABSTRACT Motivation Freshwater ecosystems have been heavily impacted by land‐use changes, but data syntheses on these impacts are still limited. Here, we compiled a global database encompassing 241 studies with species abundance data (from multiple biological groups and geographic locations) across sites with different land‐use categories.

We reviewed the dependence of marine birds on coral reefs, with a focus on trophic relationships. We found evidence for only a few avian species, particularly the Eastern Reef Egret, depending directly on reefs. Birds nonetheless interact with reef and reef‐based food webs in a diversity of ways, many of which are poorly understood and under‐studied ...

Effect of rotation on anisotropic scattering suspension of phototactic algae [PDF]
In this article, the effect of rotation on the onset of phototactic bioconvection is investigated using linear stability theory for a suspension of forward-scattering phototactic algae in this article. The suspension is uniformly illuminated by collimated flux.

Abstract Aim Predicting and acting on the future of ecosystems requires understanding species distribution shifts due to climate change. We investigated which corals are more likely to shift their distribution in the Southwestern Atlantic under a warming scenario. Location Southwestern Atlantic (SWA; 1° N–28° S).

Phototactic bioconvection with the effect of oblique collimated flux at forward scattering algae suspension in rotating medium [PDF]
The primary objective of this article is to explore how rotation influences the initiation of phototactic bioconvection. This investigation is conducted through the application of linear stability theory to a suspension composed of forward-scattering phototactic algae. The suspension is uniformly exposed to oblique collimated flux.
