The Ceresa class and tropical curves of hyperelliptic type

open access: yesForum of Mathematics, Sigma
We define a new algebraic invariant of a graph G called the Ceresa–Zharkov class and show that it is trivial if and only if G is of hyperelliptic type, equivalently, G does not have as a minor the complete graph on four vertices or the loop of three ...

Real normalized differentials and Arbarello's conjecture

open access: yes, 2012
Using meromorphic differentials with real periods, we prove Arbarello's conjecture: any compact complex cycle of dimension $g-n$ in the moduli space $\M_g$ of smooth genus $g$ algebraic curves must intersect the locus of curves having a Weierstrass point

Descent of algebraic cycles [PDF]

open access: yesHomology, Homotopy and Applications, 2017
We characterize universally generalizing morphisms which satisfy descent of algebraic cycles integrally as those universally generalizing morphisms which are surjective with generically reduced fibres. In doing so, we introduce a naive pull-back of cycles for arbitrary morphisms between noetherian schemes, which generalizes the classical pull-back for ...

ÉTALE MOTIVIC COHOMOLOGY AND ALGEBRAIC CYCLES [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Institute of Mathematics of Jussieu, 2014
We consider étale motivic or Lichtenbaum cohomology and its relation to algebraic cycles. We give an geometric interpretation of Lichtenbaum cohomology and use it to show that the usual integral cycle maps extend to maps on integral Lichtenbaum cohomology.

Continuum Mechanics Modeling of Flexible Spring Joints in Surgical Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A new mechanical model of a tendon‐actuated helical extension spring joint in surgical robots is built using Cosserat rod theory. The model can implicitly handle the unknown contacts between adjacent coils and numerically predict spring shapes from straight to significantly bent under actuation forces.

Who Knows Best What the Next Year Will Hold for You? The Validity of Direct and Personality‐based Predictions of Future Life Experiences Across Different Perceivers

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Personality, EarlyView., 2020
Abstract This study explored the validity of person judgements by targets and their acquaintances (‘informants’) in longitudinally predicting a broad range of psychologically meaningful life experiences. Judgements were gathered from four sources (targets, N = 189; and three types of informants, N = 1352), and their relative predictive validity was ...

Research on variant design based on topological entity compression algorithm

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2017
In order to improve the efficiency of product design and shorten the design cycle of product, the research progress in recent years is introduced. The basics of variant design such as the entities of topology, the equation’s structure and the compression/

The mixed Hodge structure on the fundamental group of hyperelliptic curves and higher cycles

open access: yes, 2002
In this paper we give a geometrical interpretation of an extension of mixed Hodge structures (MHS) obtained from the canonical MHS on the group ring of the fundamental group of a hyperelliptic curve modulo the fourth power of its augmentation ideal.

Capillary Dynamics Analysis of Millimetric Tubes for Anti‐Slip Surfaces: A Phase‐Field Based Finite Element Approach and Experimental Validation

open access: yesAdvanced Theory and Simulations, EarlyView.
Phase‐field method based numerical modelling of the capillary rise in millimeter‐sized tubes, aiming for anti‐slip applications. The experimental validation was performed through capillary assays in polyethylene oxide (PEO) bulk modified polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) channels.

Genome‐Wide by Lifetime Environment Interaction Studies of Brain Imaging Phenotypes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study explores genome‐wide by lifetime environment interactions on brain imaging phenotypes. Gene‐environment interactions explain more phenotypic variance than main effects, pinpoint regulatory variants, and reveal exposure‐specific biological pathways.
