Efficient formulation of a two‐noded geometrically exact curved beam element

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, Volume 124, Issue 3, Page 570-619, 15 February 2023., 2023
Abstract The article extends the formulation of a 2D geometrically exact beam element proposed by Jirásek et al. (2021) to curved elastic beams. This formulation is based on equilibrium equations in their integrated form, combined with the kinematic relations and sectional equations that link the internal forces to sectional deformation variables.

Virtual mutations of weighted surface algebras [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
The finite-dimensional symmetric algebras over an algebraically closed field, based on surface triangulations, motivated by the theory of cluster algebras, have been extensively investigated and applied. In particular, the weighted surface algebras and their deformations were introduced and studied in [16]-[20], and it was shown that all these algebras,

Simplifying algebraic expressions with brackets: Insights into Grade 10 learners’ structure sense through a study of their errors

open access: yesPythagoras
Developing structure sense is an important part of learning algebra. We investigated learners’ structure sense of algebraic expressions involving brackets. This led us to propose the constructs surface structure sense and systemic structure sense.

Experimental studies on multi‐scale data‐driven methods within the framework of structural health monitoring

open access: yesCivil Engineering Design, EarlyView.
Abstract The German Research Foundation has established the priority program SPP 100+. Its subject is monitoring bridge structures in civil engineering. The data‐driven methods cluster deals with the use of measurements and their special global and local analysis methods, which complement each other in an overall multi‐scale concept in order to realize

Conformation control of triplet state diffusion in platinum containing polyfluorene copolymers

open access: yesJournal of Polymer Science, Volume 61, Issue 1, Page 83-93, 1 January 2023., 2023
Abstract The spectral diffusion of singlet and triplet excitons in 9,9‐dioctylfluorene‐based conjugated copolymers is investigated using photoluminescence spectroscopy at both low (5 K) and room temperature (300 K). Inclusion of a N,N‐diphenyl‐4‐(pyridin‐2‐yl)aniline moiety into the polymer backbone allows subsequent cyclometalation with platinum ...

X‐Ray Absorption Studies of Local Structure of Dilute Ionic Species in Molten Salts

open access: yesChemistry–Methods, EarlyView.
This article reviews the state of the art in the use of X‐ray absorption spectroscopy methods, both experimental and theoretical, for understanding the structure of dopant metal ions in molten salts. Recent strategies, including molecular dynamics simulations and neural network–assisted analysis of X‐ ray absorption spectroscopy as well as chemometrics

Constructing Indecomposable Motivic Cohomology Classes on Algebraic Surfaces [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 1995
We describe a method to construct indecomposable classes in Bloch's higher Chow group $CH^2(X,1)$ on algebraic surfaces over the complex numbers via transcendental methods and apply it to obtain examples on K3-surfaces and some surfaces of general type.

On the notion of general type [PDF]

open access: yesRendiconti di Matematica e delle Sue Applicazioni, 1997
A smooth compact manifold M is said to have negative Yamabe invariant if all the scalar curvatures of unit-volume constant-scalar-curvature riemannian metrics on M are less than some (uniform) negative constant.

On the Integrability of the SIR Epidemic Model with Vital Dynamics

open access: yesAdvances in Mathematical Physics, 2020
In this paper, we study the SIR epidemic model with vital dynamics Ṡ=−βSI+μN−S,İ=βSI−γ+μI,Ṙ=γI−μR, from the point of view of integrability. In the case of the death/birth rate μ=0, the SIR model is integrable, and we provide its general solutions by ...

On classification of global dynamics for energy‐critical equivariant harmonic map heat flows and radial nonlinear heat equation

open access: yesCommunications on Pure and Applied Mathematics, EarlyView.
Abstract We consider the global dynamics of finite energy solutions to energy‐critical equivariant harmonic map heat flow (HMHF) and radial nonlinear heat equation (NLH). It is known that any finite energy equivariant solutions to (HMHF) decompose into finitely many harmonic maps (bubbles) separated by scales and a body map, as approaching to the ...
