De Oostzeegroenworm Marenzelleria neglecta kwam oorspronkelijk enkel voor in brak water langs de Atlantische kusten van Noord-Amerika. Vermoedelijk bereikte de soort in 1985 - via het ballastwater van schepen - het Duitse deel van de Baltische Zee.
