Investigation into the Properties of Alkali-Activated Fiber-Reinforced Slabs, Produced with Marginal By-Products and Recycled Plastic Aggregates

open access: yesConstruction Materials
Alkali-activated building materials have attracted the interest of many researchers due to their low cost and eco-efficiency. Different binders with different chemical compositions can be used for their production, so the reaction mechanism can become ...

Phase evolution of C-(N)-A-S-H/N-A-S-H gel blends investigated via alkali-activation of synthetic calcium aluminosilicate precursors

open access: yes, 2016
Stoichiometrically-controlled alkali-activated pastes containing calcium-(sodium) aluminosilicate hydrate (C-(N)-A-S-H) and sodium aluminosilicate hydrate (N-A-S-H) gels are produced by alkali-activation of high-purity synthetic calcium aluminosilicate ...

Reconfigurable Ferroelectric‐Like Two‐Dimensional Electron Gas at Room Temperature

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We demonstrate the realization of a novel ferroelectric‐like two‐dimensional electron gas (2DEG) based on the epitaxial interface between SrO‐terminate SrTiO3 and ferroeletric KNb0.5Na0.5O3${\rm KNb}_{0.5}{\rm Na}_{0.5}{\rm O}_3$ thin films. We show nonvolatile control of the transport properties enabling spatially reconfigurable devices in which ...

Establishing Atomic Coherence in Twisted Oxide Membranes Containing Volatile Elements

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Twisted oxide membranes containing volatile elements often suffer from amorphous interfacial dead layers that suppress coupling. An oxygen‐annealing strategy establishes atomically coherent and chemically bonded interfaces in twisted NaNbO3 membranes, enabling coherent oxide moiré architectures in volatile‐element‐containing systems.

Hydrophobic MFI‐Type Zeolites via Alkali‐Cation‐Induced Defect Healing: Implications for Adsorbent and Catalyst Design

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Sub‐stoichiometric amounts of Na+ or K+ enhance defect healing during Silicalite‐1 (MFI) and TS‐1 calcination by promoting Si–O–Si annealing and healing framework vacancies. The resulting defect‐free zeolites are more hydrophobic and show improved butanol/water separation and improved activity and selectivity in the epoxidation of 1‐hexene, offering a ...

Gold‐Stabilized Copper Enables Anodic Hydrogen Evolution for Ultralow‐Voltage CO‐to‐Ethylene Electrolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Gold‐stabilized copper suppresses hydroxide‐driven deactivation during anodic hydrogen evolution from furfural. Pairing this low‐potential anode with CO‐to‐ethylene electroreduction enables sub‐1 V operation at 400 mA cm−2, high single‐pass CO conversion, and co‐production of ethylene, furoic acid, and a separate hydrogen stream.
