Degradation of basalt FRP bars in alkaline environment

open access: yesScience and Engineering of Composite Materials, 2015
This paper investigates the degradation of basalt fiber reinforced polymer (BFRP) bars used for concrete construction in an alkaline environment. The relationships between tensile strength, elastic modulus, shear strength and moisture absorption rate ...

Modeling of fiberglass degradation process under stresses and alkaline environment

open access: yesУчёные записки Казанского университета: Серия Физико-математические науки, 2022
The constitutive relations for fiberglass were obtained. New methods were developed to analyze its behavior as microdamage accumulates and under the exposure to an aggressive alkaline environment.

Nitrification in acidic and alkaline environments

open access: yesEssays in Biochemistry, 2023
Abstract Aerobic nitrification is a key process in the global nitrogen cycle mediated by microorganisms. While nitrification has primarily been studied in near-neutral environments, this process occurs at a wide range of pH values, spanning ecosystems from acidic soils to soda lakes.

Accelerated Vibrational Energy Relaxation of Water in Alkaline Environments [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2021
We observe that hydrated hydroxide ions introduce an additional relaxation channel for the vibrational relaxation of the OD vibrations of HDO molecules in aqueous NaOH solutions. This additional relaxation path involves resonant (Förster) vibrational energy transfer from the excited OD vibration to OH stretch vibrations of hydrated OH- complexes.

Nonfermentative Thermoalkaliphilic Growth Is Restricted to Alkaline Environments [PDF]

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Microbiology, 2009
ABSTRACT Caldalkalibacillus thermarum strain TA2.A1 grew in pH-controlled batch culture containing a fermentable growth substrate (i.e., sucrose) from pH 7.5 to 10.0 with no significant change in the specific growth rate, suggesting that this bacterium was a facultative alkaliphile.

Microbial communities and arsenic biogeochemistry at the outflow of an alkaline sulfide-rich hot spring. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Alkaline sulfide-rich hot springs provide a unique environment for microbial community and arsenic (As) biogeochemistry. In this study, a representative alkaline sulfide-rich hot spring, Zimeiquan in the Tengchong geothermal area, was chosen to study ...

Alkali-excited gel structure and compositions evolution in geopolymers synthesized from the spent FCC catalyst and steel slag

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2022
The effect of the alkaline activation process, especially the SiO2/Na2O molar ratio (Ms) in the prepared alkaline activator, on the geopolymer materials prepared using the spent fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) catalyst and steel slag as raw materials is ...

Tribocorrosion Properties of PEO Coatings Produced on AZ91 Magnesium Alloy with Silicate- or Phosphate-Based Electrolytes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
In this work, the tribocorrosion behavior of plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO)-coated AZ91 samples was studied. In particular, two different coatings were produced and compared. One was obtained with an alkaline electrolyte containing sodium phosphate,
