Alkaline rocks of the deccan traps

Recent investigations on the Deccan Traps reveal many new findings of alkaline rocks more commonly occurring as minor intrusions than as lava flows. In comparison to the vast extent of the Deccan Traps, the alkaline rocks are negligible in their volume and are confined to tectonic belts in parts of Western India.

Nb belongs to the fifth group of the periodic table of the elements. Its atomic number is 41, its atomic weight is 92.9046 and its electronegativity is 1.6. In a six-fold coordination its ionic radius is 0.64, 0.68 and 0.62 A for the valencies of 5, 4 and 3 respectively.
