Designing Polymer Nanocomposites for X‐Ray Shielding: Mechanisms, Architectures, and Scalable Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This review highlights advances in lightweight, lead‐free polymer nanocomposites for diagnostic X‐ray shielding. By linking filler chemistry, dispersion, architecture, and photon interaction mechanisms, it establishes structure–performance relationships guiding material design.

Branched Alkanes Have Contrasting Stabilities

open access: yes, 2016
Bond separation reactions of highly branched alkanes are used to assess (de)stabilizing interactions associated with various 1,3-nonbonded substituent patterns.

Strain‐Programmable Luminescent Adhesive Patch With Tartrazine‐Mediated Optical Skin Clearing for Photochemical Tissue Bonding

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We propose a suture‐complementary approach that integrates optical skin clearing with a strain‐programmable luminescent adhesive patch. Hyaluronic acid promotes transdermal delivery of tartrazine to improve optical clearing and stabilizes its interaction with a photosensitizer. Optical clearing increases the penetration depth of visible light into skin,

Pull‐and‐Push Nanotherapeutic Hydrogels: Scavenging Inflammatory Triggers While Driving Tissue Regeneration in Burn Wounds

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A nanounit‐assembled hydrogel employing a “pull‐and‐push” strategy simultaneously scavenges pro‐inflammatory cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) and delivers regenerative therapeutics in response to burn‐induced hyperthermia. By repolarizing macrophages and promoting angiogenesis, this multifunctional platform accelerates burn wound healing, offering a blueprint for

Shape Memory Microneedle to Prevent Risks of Reproductive Hormone Therapy by Switching Sustained to Burst Release Under a Single Transdermal Insertion

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A shape‐memory microneedle system enables reproductive hormone therapy through a single transdermal insertion. The X‐shaped device sustains follicle‐stimulating hormone release for three days, and mild heating restores the O shape to trigger burst human chorionic gonadotropin release.

NEXAFS Spectroscopy of Condensed N-alkanes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
The carbon 1s Near-Edge X-ray Absorption Fine Structure (NEXAFS) spectra of alkanes vary with chain length, substitution, and phase change. For short gaseous alkanes, the carbon 1s NEXAFS spectra of alkanes are dominated by Rydberg transitions with ...

Coagulative Granular Hydrogels with an Enzyme Catalyzed Fibrin Network for Endogenous Tissue Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Coagulative granular hydrogels are composed of packed thrombin‐functionalized microgels that catalyze the conversion of fibrinogen into a secondary fibrin network, filling the interstitial voids. This bio‐inspired approach stabilizes the biomaterial to match the robustness of bulk hydrogels without compromising injectability, mimicking the initial ...

Correlations between MO Eigenvectors and the Thermochemistry of Simple Organic Molecules, Related to Empirical Bond Additivity Schemes

open access: yes, 2008
A bondingness term is further developed to aid in heat of formation (ΔfHº) calculations for C, N, O and S containing molecules. Bondingness originated from qualitative investigations into the antibonding effect in the occupied MOs of ethane.

Characteristics and origin of carbon isotopes of n-alkanes in crude oils from the western Pearl River Mouth Basin, South China sea

open access: yes, 2015
The quantitative characterization of carbon isotopes of n-alkanes is commonly carried out in organic geochemical studies. Possible controls on carbon isotopes include source organic matter, maturity, fractionation during oil expulsion and migration, and ...
