Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.

Progress in thermal stability of all‐solid‐state‐Li‐ion‐batteries

open access: yesInfoMat, 2021
Thermal safety is one of the major issues for lithium‐ion batteries (LIBs) used in electric vehicles. The thermal runaway mechanism and process of LIBs have been extensively studied, but the thermal problems of LIBs remain intractable due to the ...

From Food to Power: Hydrogel Thermoelectrics for Ingestible Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We introduce a fully edible thermoelectric–electrochromic platform that harvests heat from food and converts it into a visible color change. N‐type and p‐type hydrogel thermoelectric generators connected in series power anthocyanin‐based electrochromic displays, demonstrating the feasibility of safe, biodegradable, ingestible systems for on‐food ...

A Comparative Review of Models for All-Solid-State Li-Ion Batteries

open access: yesBatteries
In recent times, there has been significant enthusiasm for the development of all-solid-state Li-ion batteries. This interest stems from a dual focus on safety—addressing concerns related to toxic and flammable organic liquid electrolytes—and the pursuit

High-Capacity Anode Materials for All-Solid-State Lithium Batteries

open access: yesFrontiers in Energy Research, 2020
This mini review article summarizes the recent progress of the all-solid-state lithium ion batteries (LIBs) with high-capacity anodes. Although the theoretical capacity of silicon (Si) is exceptionally high, the large volume change during cycling is a ...

Receptor‐Free Identification of Toxic Gases Enabled by Hygroscopic Aqueous Salt Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Water as a gas sensor coating sounds impossible—until it stops evaporating. Here, hygroscopic salt solutions (LiCl, LiBr, H3PO4) form non‐drying aqueous films on CNT chemiresistors under ambient air. Gases partition into these liquid layers, sometimes transforming into water, and generate salt‐specific resistance fingerprints across a four‐channel ...

Sulfide-based composite solid electrolyte films for all-solid-state batteries

open access: yesCommunications Materials
All-solid-state batteries with non-flammable solid electrolytes offer enhanced safety features, and show the potential for achieving higher energy density by using lithium metal as the anode.

All-Solid-State Anode-Free Sodium Batteries: Challenges and Prospects

open access: yesBatteries
All-solid-state anode-free sodium batteries present a special and especially important kind of energy storage device. Unfortunately, the industrial production of such batteries has been absent up to now, although the prospects of their development seem ...

High Reversibility of Soft Electrode Materials in All-solid-state Batteries

open access: yesFrontiers in Energy Research, 2016
All-solid-state batteries using inorganic solid electrolytes (SEs) are considered to be ideal batteries for electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) because they are potentially safer than conventional lithium-ion batteries ...
