SnSe-Coated Microfiber Resonator for All-Optical Modulation

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2022
In this study, a tin monoselenide (SnSe)-based all-optical modulator is firstly demonstrated with high tuning efficiency, broad bandwidth, and fast response time. The SnSe nanoplates are deposited in the microfiber knot resonator (MKR) on MgF2 substrate and change its transmission spectra by the external laser irradiation.

Quantum Modelling of Electro-Optic Modulators

open access: yes, 2011
Many components that are employed in quantum information and communication systems are well known photonic devices encountered in standard optical fiber communication systems, such as optical beamsplitters, waveguide couplers and junctions, electro-optic

Development of a broadband and squint-free Ku-band phased array antenna system for airborne satellite communications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Novel avionic communication systems are required for various purposes, for example to increase the flight safety and operational integrity as well as to enhance the quality of service to passengers on board. To serve these purposes, a key technology that

All‐Optically Driven Optofluidic Light Modulator

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials
AbstractLiquid crystals (LCs) are widely recognized for unique physical and optical properties and remarkable ability to modulate light beams. Traditional methods for actuating LCs by electric fields rely on the use of metallic electrodes, which face limitations in the spatial resolution of LCs actuation and their effective integration into optofluidic

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Analysis of a Silicon Dual-Coupled-Ring Resonator Modulator Based on Push–Pull Coupling Tunings

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2018
We present a silicon dual-coupled-ring resonator modulator with push–pull coupling tunings. The basic idea of this scheme is to construct a dual-coupled-ring resonator structure in which the coupling coefficients of all coupling regions are ...

Optical interconnect solution with plasmonic modulator and Ge photodetector array [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We report on an optical chip-to-chip interconnect solution, thereby demonstrating plasmonics as a solution for ultra-dense, high-speed short-reach communications. The interconnect comprises a densely integrated plasmonic Mach-Zehnder modulator array that

On-chip low-loss all-optical MoSe2 modulator

open access: yesOptics Letters, 2022
Monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs), like MoS2, MoSe2, WS2, and WSe2, feature direct bandgaps, strong spin–orbit coupling, and exciton–polariton interactions at the atomic scale, which could be harnessed for efficient light emission, valleytronics, and polaritonic lasing, respectively.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

CMOS-compatible graphene photodetector covering all optical communication bands

open access: yes, 2013
Optical interconnects are becoming attractive alternatives to electrical wiring in intra- and inter-chip communication links. Particularly, the integration with silicon complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) technology has received considerable ...
