Optimization of 3D‐Printed Structured Packings—Current State and Future Developments

open access: yesChemie Ingenieur Technik, EarlyView.
This paper gives an overview about structured packing development for distillation, surveying heuristic development cycles, computational fluid dynamics simulations, and additive manufacturing techniques. The emerging application of shape optimization to improve packings is emphasized, and its benefits, impact, and limitations are discussed.

Simplifying species‐interaction models by grouping parameters: optimal groupings differ between effects and responses

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Most ecological models of species interactions require many parameters, making them expensive to fit to experimental or observational data. To reduce the number of parameters, species are often divided into groups a priori, for example on the basis of functional or phylogenetic similarity, and species within these groups are assumed to behave ...

Allee effect in exotic and introduced blowflies [PDF]

open access: yesNeotropical Entomology, 2011
We combined two models to investigate the theoretical dynamics of five exotic and native blowfly species in response to the Allee effect by using demographic parameters estimated from experimental populations. Most of the results suggest stabilization of dynamic behavior in response to the Allee effect. However, the results depended on the magnitude of

How digitisation of herbaria reveals the botanical legacy of the First World War

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Digitisation of herbarium collections is bringing greater understanding to bear on the complexity of narratives relating to the First World War and its aftermath – scientific and societal. Plant collecting during the First World War was more widespread than previously understood, contributed to the psychological well‐being of those involved and ...

Chaos and Bifurcations of a Leslie-Gower Food Chain with Strong Allee Effect

open access: yesDiscrete Dynamics in Nature and Society, 2015
Allee effect, as an important biological phenomenon, has been considered in many ecosystems, whereas, its influence on interactions of three or more species is little investigated.

Allee effect increasing the final density of the species subject to the Allee effect in a Lotka–Volterra commensal symbiosis model

open access: yesAdvances in Difference Equations, 2018
A Lotka–Volterra commensal symbiosis model with first species subject to the Allee effect is proposed and studied in this paper. Local and global stability property of the equilibria are investigated.

On certain new exact solutions of a diffusive predator-prey system

open access: yes, 2012
We construct exact solutions for a system of two nonlinear partial differential equations describing the spatio-temporal dynamics of a predator-prey system where the prey per capita growth rate is subject to the Allee effect. Using the $\big(\frac{G'}{G}\

Expansion of the Brazilian Sugarcane Bioenergy System Promotes Greenhouse Emission Reductions and Sustainable Development Without Compromising Food Security

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The growing global demand for biofuels has raised concern about compromising food security. This study uses two independent economy‐wide models to evaluate the impact of expanding the Brazilian sugarcane bioenergy system on economic growth, social outcomes and food security.

Uncertain Logistic population model with Allee effect

open access: yesSoft Computing, 2022
By considering the influence of various uncertain noises, we established an uncertain Logistic population model with Allee effect, which was characterized by an uncertain differential equation. Firstly, we obtained the solution of the model, and discussed the stability of the equilibrium state.

Shaping expectations, losing flexibility: A study of CEO promises as strategic communication tools

open access: yesStrategic Management Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Research Summary CEO promises are powerful but understudied communication tools. We develop a dual‐mechanism framework theorizing that while CEO promises elevate stakeholder expectations, they simultaneously constrain strategic flexibility. We argue that CEO promise‐making is shaped by two competing pressures: making more promises when the ...
