Rodent allergens play a significant role in the pathogenesis of asthma and allergic rhinitis, and are potent causes of acute and chronic symptoms. This has long been apparent in occupational settings, particularly in the laboratory, but has been most recently studied and found to be important in home environments. These allergens have been suggested as

Human IgE against helminths is a normal component of the whole protective response elicitesd during infection, when specific IgE to a great number of antigens is produced; however, few of those IgE binding components are actually allergens. In general, considering the strong Th2/IgE responses during helminth infections is intriguing that they are not ...

Cockroaches produce several potent allergens associated with sensitization and the development of asthma. Many of these allergens have been cloned and produced as biologically active recombinant proteins. Three-dimensional structure and molecular modeling, in addition to studies on the biological functions of these proteins in the cockroach, have ...

The causative treatment of type I allergies is a long pursued goal in immunology. To design safe and efficient vaccine preparations, the interaction of the allergen and the symptom-inducing IgE antibodies still needs to be better understood. In this article, we describe the use of the phage display technique in allergy.

Approximately 5,200 contact allergens are known. Developing and implementing new chemical substances in the industry and the addition of these substances in various commercial products is a continuous process, and new contact allergens are frequently identified.

Most animal‐derived major allergens causing respiratory sensitization belong to the family of proteins called lipocalins. Their sequential identity varies but the three‐dimensional structure is conserved. They are present in body fluids and secretions. Several lipocalins are able to bind and transport small hydrophobic ligands like retinol.

Allergies affect a large proportion of the population. Allergies can adversely affect productivity, sleep, and quality of life and can lead to life-threatening reactions. Allergies can spread to affect multiple organ systems. Allergen immunotherapy is the only therapy that can change the natural history of allergic disease.
