Neuroprotection in a Novel Mouse Model of Multiple Sclerosis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Multiple sclerosis is an immune-mediated, demyelinating and neurodegenerative disease that currently lacks any neuroprotective treatments. Innovative neuroprotective trial designs are required to hasten the translational process of drug development.

Long-term outcomes and risk factors for failure of glaucoma filtering surgery in eyes with vernal keratoconjunctivitis and steroid-induced glaucoma

open access: yesIndian Journal of Ophthalmology, 2022
Purpose: To report outcomes and assess the risk factors for failure of trabeculectomy (trab), trabeculectomy with mitomycin-C (trabMMC), and combined trabeculectomy with cataract extraction (CT) in vernal keratoconjunctivitis (VKC) eyes with steroid ...

Ambient fine particulate matter and allergic symptoms in the middle-aged and elderly population: results from the PIFCOPD study

open access: yesRespiratory Research, 2023
Background The associations between short- and long-term exposure to ambient fine particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter ≤ 2.5 µm (PM2.5) and allergic symptoms in middle-aged and elderly populations remain unclear, particularly in China, where ...

Essential lipid autacoids rewire mitochondrial energy efficiency in metabolic dysfunction‐associated fatty liver disease

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Increased liver content of DHA‐derived small lipid autacoids (i.e resolvin D1 and maresin 1) associates with enhanced mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation, fatty acid β‐oxidation and bioenergetic metabolic flux. These features provide hepatic protection from steatotic, pro‐inflammatory and fibrogenic insults.

Mitochondrial stress in advanced fibrosis and cirrhosis associated with chronic hepatitis B, chronic hepatitis C, or nonalcoholic steatohepatitis

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Adaptive mitochondrial mechanisms allow mitochondrial resilience and prevent the worsening of fibrosis, while deregulation of these mechanisms promotes the progression from no/minimal‐mild (F0‐F2) fibrosis to advanced fibrosis and cirrhosis (F3‐F4). Abstract Background and Aims Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection causes oxidative stress (OS) and alters ...

RIPK3 dampens mitochondrial bioenergetics and lipid droplet dynamics in metabolic liver disease

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
RIPK3 dampens mitochondrial bioenergetics and lipid droplet dynamics in metabolic liver disease. Abstract Background and Aims Receptor‐interacting protein kinase 3 (RIPK3) mediates NAFLD progression, but its metabolic function is unclear. Here, we aimed to investigate the role of RIPK3 in modulating mitochondria function, coupled with lipid droplet (LD)

A Comprehensive Literature Review of Allergic Conjunctivitis

open access: yes, 2022
Allergic disease is a complex disease caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Allergic diseases are on the rise, affecting about 30% to 40% of the world\u27s population. In addition to a decrease in quality of life, this disease can
