Abstract On 30 June 2025, the High Court refused a judicial review of UK arms export policy towards Israel. This article examines the government's claims in the case and the judges’ ruling, arguing that the law has an ambivalent capacity to serve justice.

Abstract Crises transform the temporal orientation of political decision‐making. They demand immediate and decisive action and thus convert time into a means of political control. In these circumstances, assessing the long‐term consequences of proposed policies with respect to welfare, sustainability or justice also becomes demanding.

Goode, the Manchester Guardian’s special correspondent in Russia and the Baltic, was arrested in the Estonian capital Tallinn and briefly detained aboard a British warship.
