ABSTRACT Oropharyngeal food processing exhibits a remarkable diversity among vertebrates, reflecting the evolution of specialised ‘processing centres’ associated with the mandibular, hyoid, and branchial arches. Although studies have detailed various food‐processing strategies and mechanisms across vertebrates, a coherent and comprehensive terminology ...

Estimating the Supply Curve for Nutria Pelts From Coastal Louisiana and the Impacts Associated with Declining Prices [PDF]
Nutria harvests vary with price. As pelt prices declined, nutria populations - and wetland degradation have risen. This paper develops a nutria supply model to predict harvests at various prices which are incorporated into a wetland loss model to ...

Association Between D‐amino Acids in Natto (fermented soybeans) and Kidney Dysfunction
XX XX ABSTRACT In this study, we examined clinical and cohort data to explore the potential renoprotective effects of natto (fermented soybeans) consumption and its relationship with D‐amino acids. In a clinical study, ten healthy adults consumed one 40‐g pack of natto three times in a single day, and plasma and urine samples were collected 1 h and 24 ...

Pulmonary development in Squamata: Insights from embryonic studies using micro‐CT
Abstract Background Pulmonary development in tetrapods is a complex process, especially within squamates, where single‐chambered, transitional, and multi‐chambered lungs can be found in adult animals. While the embryological development of the respiratory system of lizards and snakes was studied in a number of species between the 1830s and 1940s, the ...

Chromosome-scale genome assembly and gene annotation of the Alligator Gar (Atractosteus spatula)
Given the aggressive nature and robust survival capabilities of the alligator gar (Atractosteus spatula), if it was to exist in a new environment as an invasive species, it could cause significant disruption to the invaded ecosystem.

Abstract Background Sporadic venous malformation (VM) is associated with the hyperactivating p.L914F mutation in TIE2, a receptor tyrosine kinase essential for vascular development. This mutation is not found in hereditary VM, suggesting incompatibility with life when expressed during early vascular development.

Published distribution data, while invaluable for understanding species' biogeography, often suffer from limitations such as dated and static representations of ranges, a bias toward latitudinal information, and lack of resolution in sampling frequency and variation in abundance throughout a species' distribution.

Jasper Skulls and Memento Mori
The jasper skulls in this Curiosity Cabinet sit on the scale atop the touch-ables table. Jasper, a type of impure silica usually a reddish color, is commonly carved for small sculptures, as we see in the skulls. The reddish tones of both skulls match the

Co/C aerogels (Co/CAs) are successfully fabricated with office waste paper (OWP) as the raw material by loading ZIF‐67 crystals. The optimal sample exhibited an effective absorption bandwidth of 5.6 GHz, which outperforms many biomass‐derived microwave absorbing materials.
