Nest Success and Hatchling Survival of American Alligators Within Inland Wetlands of East Texas [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Because of liberalization of American alligator (Alligator mississippiensis) harvest management in Texas, estimates of nest success and hatchling survival for inland populations are essential for long-term, sustainable population and harvest management ...

AI‐Based D‐Amino Acid Substitution for Optimizing Antimicrobial Peptides to Treat Multidrug‐Resistant Bacterial Infection

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study constructed the first D‐amino acid antimicrobial peptide dataset and developed an AI model for efficient screening of substitution sites, with 80% of candidate peptides showing enhanced activity. The lead peptide dR2‐1 demonstrated potent antimicrobial activity in vitro and in vivo, high stability, and low toxicity.

The impact of host development and density stress on the diversity of microbial communities in the gut and its surrounding environment of the Chinese alligator

open access: yesEcology and Evolution
The Chinese alligator (Alligator sinensis) is currently an endangered species due to a combination of factors, including climate change, anthropogenic activities, and habitat fragmentation.

RNA-seq analysis of the gonadal transcriptome during Alligator mississippiensis temperature-dependent sex determination and differentiation

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2016
BackgroundThe American alligator (Alligator mississippiensis) displays temperature-dependent sex determination (TSD), in which incubation temperature during embryonic development determines the sexual fate of the individual.

Going nuclear: gene family evolution and vertebrate phylogeny reconciled [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Gene duplications have been common throughout vertebrate evolution, introducing paralogy and so complicating phylogenctic inference from nuclear genes.

Mineralized Cryogel/Hydrogel Constructs to Recapitulate Early Breast Cancer Bone Metastasis In Vitro

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A new biphasic in vitro cryogel/hydrogel model of early breast cancer bone metastasis provides precise control over microenvironmental cues and microscopic access to the spatiotemporal cancer cell distribution. Deposited bone‐like mineral is observed to strongly impede the effects of biomolecular signals, as evidenced by both colonization profiles and ...

A Comprehensive Analysis of the Phylogeny, Genomic Organization and Expression of Immunoglobulin Light Chain Genes in Alligator sinensis, an Endangered Reptile Species. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
Crocodilians are evolutionarily distinct reptiles that are distantly related to lizards and are thought to be the closest relatives of birds. Compared with birds and mammals, few studies have investigated the Ig light chain of crocodilians.

Bioprospecting the American Alligator (Alligator mississippiensis) Host Defense Peptidome

open access: yesPLOS ONE, 2015
Cationic antimicrobial peptides and their therapeutic potential have garnered growing interest because of the proliferation of bacterial resistance. However, the discovery of new antimicrobial peptides from animals has proven challenging due to the limitations associated with conventional biochemical purification and difficulties in predicting active ...

Multimodal Cross‐Attentive Graph‐Based Framework for Predicting In Vivo Endocrine Disruptors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A multimodal cross‐attentive graph neural network integrates molecular graphs with androgen and estrogen adverse outcome pathway (AOP)–anchored in vitro assay signals to predict in vivo endocrine disruption. By fusing information on Tier‐1 AOP logits with chemical structures, the framework achieves high accuracy and provides assay‐traceable ...
