The effect of a solution of quantum dots based on cadmium telluride (CdTe QD) as a powerful cytostatic effector was investigated, by using a standard Allium-test system. The cytostatic effects of the experimental CdTe QD solution at the organismal level were manifested in a decrease in the linear growth and biomass of Allium cepa L.

Crossing experiments in Allium L. section Cepa
Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society, 1992VAN RAAMSDONK, L. W. D., WIETSMA, W. A. & DE VRIES, J. N., 1992. Crossing experiments in Allium L. section Cepa. A full diallel was carried out with six diploid species of Allium section Cepa and A. roylei of section Rhizirideum, High isolation barriers were found between the related species A. cepa and A. oschaninii, between A.

Haploidy in onion (Allium cepa L.) and other Allium species
1996The genus Allium contains some of the most important vegetables and spices used throughout the world including onion, leek, garlic, and shallot. Additional Allium species are cultivated more regionally including chives (A. schoenoprasum L.), Chinese chives (A. tuberosum Rottl. ex Spr. and A. ramosum L.), rakkyo (A. chinense G. Don), and A. hookeri Thw.

Pollen competition in onion (Allium cepa L.)
Euphytica, 1981Pollen mixtures with two components, one of which carried a dominant marker gene for red or white bulb skin colour, were used to pollinate flowers on onion umbels from several cultivars. Scoring progenies for the marker revealed that pollen components differed in their ability to effect fertilization, suggesting that gametophytic competition can occur ...

The influence of different concentrations of cadmium and potassium on the levels of mutagenic and cytotoxic effects induced by thallium-?????? in Allium cepa root meristem has been studied. The combined action of ??????Th (0.8 ????) with cadmium in non-toxic (0.009 ????) and toxic (5 ????) concentrations resulted in sinergetic increase of the frequency
