Controlling Protein Assembly with Superchaotropic Nano‐Ions

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 136, Issue 45, November 4, 2024.
In living systems, protein assemblies serve essential functions. Controlling their construction in biotechnology is challenging. We show that anionic boron clusters act as reversible molecular glue for proteins, forming 2D assemblies and preventing temperature denaturation of myoglobin.

Genome‐Wide DNA Methylation Patterns Predict Age in the Zebra Shark (Stegostoma tigrinum) and Provide Insight Into the Evolution of Vertebrate Aging

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, Volume 35, Issue 7, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Epigenomic changes are a hallmark of aging, and DNA methylation (DNAm) has emerged as the most reliable molecular marker of an individual's age. Genome‐wide patterns of age‐associated hypo‐ and hypermethylation have been applied to generate predictive models (i.e., “epigenetic clocks”) capable of estimating chronological age in an increasingly

Effect of the Consumption of Lean Red Meat from Beef (Pirenaica Breed) Versus Lean White Meat (Chicken) on the Gut Microbiota: A Randomized Cross‐Over Study in Healthy Young Adults

open access: yesMolecular Nutrition &Food Research, Volume 69, Issue 21, November 2025.
A randomized crossover trial in healthy young adults (n = 16) compared the effects of lean red meat from beef (Pirenaica breed) and lean white meat from chicken on the gut microbiota composition and function. Both meat diets caused modest changes in microbial diversity and composition, suggesting comparable impacts when consumed as part of a habitual ...

Numerical and Experimental Approaches to Estimate Discharge Coefficients and Energy Loss Coefficients in Pressurized Grated Inlets

open access: yesHydrology, 2021
Numerical models concerning inlet systems are run to assess the hydraulic performance of existing or new systems and estimate the flow interchanges between the surface overland and sewer flows.

Deciphering complex coral reef soundscapes with spatial audio and 360° video

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 11, Page 2622-2637, November 2025.
Abstract Coral reef soundscapes hold an untapped wealth of biodiversity information. While they are easy to record and filled with snapping shrimp and fish sounds, they are difficult to decipher because we know little about which sounds are made by which species. With identified fish sounds, acoustic monitoring can directly inform biodiversity metrics,

Development of a Leak Detection System Based on Fiber Optic DTS Monitoring and Validation on a Full-Scale Model

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Leaks in ponds are a problem due to the loss of water resources, although the problem is greater when the ponds store livestock or agricultural waste (slurry or wastewater), in which case there is a risk of hydrogeological contamination of the ...

Second harmonic generation from metallic arrays of rectangular holes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The generation process of second harmonic (SH) radiation from holes periodically arranged on a metal surface is investigated. Three main modulating factors affecting the optical response are identified: the near-field distribution at the wavelength of ...
