Evaluating Alder-Endophyte (Alnus acuminata-Frankia- Mycorrhizae) Interactions
Journal of Sustainable Forestry, 1993The objective of this study was to compare the inter- action between Frankia and vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizae (VAM) on the growth response of Alnus acwninata H.B.K. seed- lings under three different phosphorus levels. Alnus acuminata seed- lings grown in sterile vermiculite, were inoculated with Frankia strain HFPArI3 and/or VAM (as Glomus inwa ...

Two pure Alnus acuminata stands established in a montane forest in central Mexico (Puebla State) were monitored between 2010 and 2013 to confirm and recognize the ectomycorrhizal (EcM) systems of A. acuminata with Lactarius cuspidoaurantiacus and Lactarius herrerae, two recently described species. Through comparison of internal transcribed spacer (ITS)

Phytoremediation potential of chromium and lead by Alnus acuminata subsp. acuminata
Environmental Progress & Sustainable Energy, 2016Metals are non‐biodegradable pollutants, with high environmental persistence that have great toxic effects for the environment and humans. Lead and chromium can be found in the banks of rivers contaminated by domestic and industrial discharges. A number of plants are able to remove metals from the ground and accumulate them in their inner tissues ...

Description and identification of Alnus acuminata ectomycorrhizae from Argentinean alder stands
Mycologia, 2010The objective of this study was to describe the morphological and anatomical features of five unidentified ectomycorrhizal types of Alnus acuminata and to complement their identification based on ITS-rDNA sequence analysis. The combined approach of morphotyping and sequence analysis based on ITS sequence comparison with sequences contained in GenBank ...

Evaluating Alnus acuminata as a component in agroforestry systems
Agroforestry Systems, 1990The combination of alder (Alnus acuminata H.B.K.) with pastures, mainly Pennisetum clandestinum (kikuyu grass) and P. Purpureum (elephant grass) is a traditional practice in Costa Rican dairy highlands (between 1300–2500 masl). People believe that the pasture grows greener under the trees [Combe, 1979].

Two Frankia strains were isolated from root nodules of Alnus acuminata collected in the Tucumano-oranense forest, Argentina. Monosporal cultures were obtained by plating a spore suspension of each strain and isolating a single colony. The strains (named AacI and AacIII) showed branched mycelia with polymorphic sporangia and NIR-vesicles.
