Distinct Effects of Complement C4A and C4B Copy Numbers in Systemic Sclerosis Serological and Clinical Subtypes

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, Volume 78, Issue 4, Page 904-913, April 2026.
Objective Complement component 4 (C4), encoded by C4A and C4B within the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) on chromosome 6, regulates the immune response and clears immune complexes. The variable copy number (CN) of C4 genes and retroviral human endogenous retrovirus K (HERV‐K) element influence its function.

The OLGIMA system for gastric cancer risk assessment. A useful method based on the histological Sydney consensus

open access: yesHistopathology, Volume 88, Issue 4, Page 911-921, March 2026.
The new OLGIMA method for histological gastric cancer risk assessment is based on the severity of glandular atrophy and intestinal metaplasia, in both antrum and corpus, according to the Updated Sydney classification. The highest score of either atrophy or intestinal metaplasia from each location will be used for the final OLGIMA stage.

Functional Trait Adaptations Drive Enhanced Post‐Hurricane Resilience on Serpentine Soils

open access: yesJournal of Vegetation Science, Volume 37, Issue 2, March/April 2026.
This study reveals that tropical plant communities on nutrient‐poor serpentine soils exhibit unexpectedly high resilience to hurricane disturbance. By integrating trait‐based ecology, remote sensing, and a multidimensional stability framework, this work uncovers how edaphic plant communities may be pre‐adapted to extreme events, challenging assumptions

Phylogeny and historical biogeography of the Pachira sensu lato clade (Bombacoideae, Malvaceae) with a new infrageneric classification

open access: yesTAXON, Volume 75, Issue 1, February 2026.
