ABSTRACT Objective Amnioinfusions in anhydramnios aim to promote fetal lung development, but currently used fluids (Normal Saline [NS], Lactated Ringer's [LR]) fail to mimic the intrauterine environment and increase reactive oxygen species (ROS). We developed a synthetic amniotic fluid (Amnio‐well, AW) designed to reduce intrauterine ROS.

Aims. Genes of the 5-lipoxygenase pathway are compelling candidates for atherosclerosis. We hypothesize that polymorphisms in ALOX12, ALOX15, ALOX5, and ALOX5AP genes are associated with subclinical atherosclerosis in multiple vascular beds.

The Blk pathway functions as a tumor suppressor in chronic myeloid leukemia stem cells [PDF]
A therapeutic strategy for treating cancer is to target and eradicate cancer stem cells (CSCs) without harming their normal stem cell counterparts. The success of this approach relies on identification of molecular pathways that selectively regulate CSC ...

System level network data and models attack cancer drug resistance
Drug resistance is responsible for >90% of cancer related deaths. Cancer drug resistance is a system level network phenomenon covering the entire cell. Small‐scale interactomes and signalling network models of drug resistance guide directed drug development.

Pharmacogenetics of asthma therapeutics [PDF]
Asthma is recognised to arise from complex interactions between environmental exposure and disease-susceptibility genetic contributions.1 Pharmacological management of the condition aims to relieve symptoms, decrease airway hyperresponsiveness, and ...

Dopaminergic neurons are particularly susceptible to ferroptosis. Pacemaking activity–driven calcium (Ca2+) influx increases metabolic demand and reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, promoting iron release from aconitase. Alpha‐synuclein (α‐syn) enhances iron uptake via transferrin receptor 1 (TfR1) and exhibits ferrireductase activity, converting

Magnolin alleviated DSS‐induced colitis by inhibiting ALOX5‐mediated ferroptosis
AbstractInflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic and incurable disorder associated with higher cancer risk and currently faces unsatisfactory treatment outcomes. Ferroptotic cells secrete damage‐associated molecular patterns (DAMPs) that recruit and activate immune cells, particularly macrophages.

Asthma patients with specific genotypes identified for fish oil treatment trial
The lifetime prevalence of asthma in California is nearly 20%, and better therapies are needed to manage this common chronic disease. Fish oils containing omega-3 fatty acids are considered a potential therapy for asthma and other inflammatory diseases ...
