Intraocular melanoma in an alpaca
Veterinary Ophthalmology, 1999A case of primary intraocular melanoma in an alpaca is reported. This patient also presented with a mild normocytic, normochromic anemia and hypoproteinemia. These can be markers of an immunodeficiency syndrome associated with llamas. Although this patient did not appear to have clinical signs of this syndrome, its presence needed to be ruled out as ...

Traditional Public Key Infrastructures (PKI) have not lived up to their promise because there are too many ways to define PKIs, too many cryptographic primitives to build them with, and too many administrative domains with incompatible roots of trust.

In order to investigate whether exenatide could be used to stimulate glucose clearance and insulin secretion in alpacas without causing colic signs, six healthy adult alpacas were injected once a day with increasing subcutaneous doses. A follow‐up intravenous glucose injection was given to induce hyperglycemia, and serial blood samples were collected ...

Rapid increases in demand for cloud computing, large-scale internet services, and mobile devices have led to a correspondingly large increase in the amount of energy required for computation. This additional energy use comes at a high cost, both financially and environmentally. Energy profilers are useful tools which allow programmers to energy audit

Hyperthermia in Llamas and Alpacas
Veterinary Clinics of North America: Food Animal Practice, 1994Hyperthermia is a threat to heavily fibered llamas and alpacas in hot humid climates. Hyperthermia produces severe metabolic alterations that cause organ damage that may be nonresponsive to simply lowering the body temperature to within normal limits. Early detection and aggressive therapy are crucial to preventing death or permanent organ damage.
