Is a Femoro-Acetabular Impingement Type Cam Predictable after Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis?

open access: yesChildren, 2021
(1) Background: Previous studies have proven a high incidence of a femoro-acetabular impingement (FAI) type cam in patients sustaining a slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE).

Paper 07: Predictors of Return to Sport in High-Level Athletes Following Hip Arthroscopy for Femoroacetabular Impingement

open access: yesOrthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine, 2022
Objectives: The purpose of this study is to identify clinical and radiographic factors that predict return to sport in high-level athletes and to determine thresholds for significant predictors.

Concentric Circles: A New Ultrasonographic Sign for the Diagnosis of Normal Infantile Hip Development

open access: yesChildren, 2023
Ultrasound (US) of the infant hip is used to diagnose developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH). We present a new sonographic sign that describes the periphery of the femoral head and the acetabulum as two concentric circles.During 2008–2019, 3650 infants

Overdiagnosing of femoroacetabular impingement: correlation between clinical presentation and computed tomography in symptomatic patients

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Ortopedia, 2016
OBJECTIVE: To correlate the angles between the acetabulum and the proximal femur in symptomatic patients with femoroacetabular impingement (FAI), using computed tomography (CT).

Higher femoral head–to–femoral neck ratio are associated with limited range of motion of hip joints in hereditary multiple exostosis patients

open access: yesMedicine Science
Hip involvement is one of the most common skeletal manifestations of hereditary multiple exostoses (HME) in 30-90% of the patients. The anatomical changes in the proximal femur in patients with HME, may lead to deformities and related functional deficits.

Construction and Local Routing for Angle-Monotone Graphs

open access: yesJournal of Graph Algorithms and Applications, 2019
A geometric graph in the plane is angle-monotone of width $\gamma$ if every pair of vertices is connected by an angle-monotone path of width $\gamma$, a path such that the angles of any two edges in the path differ by at most $\gamma$.

The Feasibility of Prenatal Ultrasonic Screening for Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip

open access: yesDiseases
Background: developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) is a condition characterized by abnormal hip development in infancy. Early diagnosis allows for effective treatment, while late presentation often necessitates complex surgical interventions.

RADIOGRAPHIC FOLLOW-UP AFTER MILD SLIPPED CAPITAL FEMORAL EPIPHYSIS: WHAT IS THE INCIDENCE OF SUBSEQUENT SURGERY FOR FEMORACETABULAR IMPINGEMENT?

open access: yesOrthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine, 2021
Background: Slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE) is characterized by translation of the proximal femoral epiphysis posterior and medial relative to the metaphysis. The gold standard treatment of mild SCFE, defined as a slip angle

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Septin 9 PB domains coordinate centrosome positioning and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...
