A rapid and simple method to isolate pure alpha-cellulose

Phytochemical Analysis, 2000
A protocol is described to isolate small quantities of highly purified cellulose for isotopic analysis of 10–100 mg samples of secondary (Pinus sylvestris L.) and primary (Rubus idaeus L.) plant cell wall material. Elemental analysis of 350 cellulose samples isolated from pine wood samples estimated the relative carbon content to be ca.

Annealing of alpha particle tracks in cellulose nitrate

International Journal of Radiation Applications and Instrumentation. Part D. Nuclear Tracks and Radiation Measurements, 1988
Abstract An annealing study of α-tracks in cellulose nitrate has been conducted. Annealing temperatures between 20 and 60°C were used for time durations up 1024 h. Annealing of both normally incident and isotropic α-tracks were observed. A calibration curve was obtained relating isotropic α-track density loss to time-temperature annealing history in ...

Influence of alpha-cellulose on myoelectric activity of proximal canine colon

American Journal of Physiology-Gastrointestinal and Liver Physiology, 1983
The relations between dietary fiber intake and myoelectric activity of the proximal canine colon were examined in four normal beagles fed four diets of varying fiber content in a randomized block design. The basal diet was a canned, meat-based product to which 3, 6, and 9% by weight of alpha-cellulose was added.

Use of cellulose nitrate for alpha autoradiography

Metallography, 1972
Abstract Plastic- and specimen-supported cellulose nitrate detector films were employed in the alpha autoradiography of metallographic specimens containing uranium and plutonium. For autoradiographs made with plastic-supported film, the film was removed from the specimen prior to developing in 6 N sodium hydroxide.

Evaluation of microcrystalline cellulose modifed from alpha-cellulose obtained from Costus afer

Journal of Pharmaceutical and Allied Sciences, 2011
Alpha cellulose was obtained from Costus afer and part of it was modified to microcrystalline cellulose (CAMCC). The physicochemical properties of the microcrystalline cellulose were determined and compared with those of commercial microcrystalline cellulose (Avicel 101).

Detection efficiency and range measurements of alphas and protons in cellulose nitrate

Radiation Effects, 1977
The range, detection efficiency and etching development of alpha tracks were studied in cellulose nitrate. Some other track revelation techniques employing the swelling of latent alpha and proton tracks are discussed.

Digestion of Alpha-Cellulose by Larvæ of Anobium punctatum De Geer

Nature, 1951
PARKIN1 demonstrated that the larval gut of the common house borer Anobium punctatum De Geer contained an enzyme or enzymes which produced reducing sugars from isolated oak α-cellulose in vitro. Falck2 and Muller3 concluded from chemical analyses of sound and digested wood that some α-cellulose was digested by the larvae.

MWNT reinforced melamine-formaldehyde containing alpha-cellulose

Composites Science and Technology, 2007
Multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWNT) were used as reinforcement for melamine-formaldehyde (MF). They were oxidised in HNO3/ H2SO4 mixture and analyzed by means of X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS). Two anionic surfactants: sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) and sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (NaDDBS) were used to assist the dispersion of nanotubes.

The synergistic effect of benzhydrylation and iodination of the flammability of alpha‐cellulose

Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 1971
AbstractCellulose samples modified by iodination, benzhydrylation, and benzhydrylation followed by iodination were pyrolyzed to investigate the potential flame retardance of such treatments. Their effect on crystallinity, rate of thermal degradation, char production, and pyrolysis products was determined.

Zirconium Dioxide Supported on .alpha.-Cellulose: Synthesis and Characterization

Langmuir, 1994
Cellulose-supported zirconium dioxide was prepared by reaction of ethanolic zirconium tetrachloride solution with a-cellulose. The treated cellulose was characterized by C-13 cross-polarization magic angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance, powder X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning electron microscope, and X-ray ...
