With the increasing availability of alpha emitters, targeted α-particle therapy has emerged as a solution of choice to treat haematological cancers and micrometastatic and minimal residual diseases. Alpha-particles are highly cytotoxic because of their high linear energy transfer (LET) and have a short range of a few cell diameters in tissue, assuring ...

Track Nanodosimetry of an Alpha Particle
Radiation Protection Dosimetry, 2002Experimental measurements and calculations are described of ionisation distributions in propane wall-less gas cavities of about 20 nm simulated size, performed at different distances from a 244Cm alpha particle track. Ionisation events are detected one by one by collecting electrons from the sensitive volume and by separating them with a drift column ...

Abstract The time-independent Schrödinger equation for the case of nucleons in light nuclei is more difficult to treat than that of electrons in a light atom because of more complicated interaction terms. Nevertheless, for three-nucleon systems such as the triton, binding energies and structural details have been successfully obtained

Interaction of Alpha-Particles
Physical Review, 1941The properties of the forces between alpha-particles are discussed on the basis of a Heitler-London analysis augmented by a "van der Waals" calculation. The results are in some respects unfavorable to the alpha-particle model of the nucleus inasmuch as they contradict the assumptions often made when this model is applied.
