Alpha particle photoeffect

Physical Review C, 1983
Using sum rules we calculate four energy weighted moments for the $^{4}\mathrm{He}$ electric dipole photoeffect for a Volkov spin-independent potential with Serber exchange. Our results are ${\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{\ensuremath{-}1}=2.83$ mb, ${\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{0}=119$ MeV mb, ${\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{1}=5430$ Me${\mathrm{V}}^{2}$ mb, and ...

Interaction of Alpha-Particles

Physical Review, 1941
The properties of the forces between alpha-particles are discussed on the basis of a Heitler-London analysis augmented by a "van der Waals" calculation. The results are in some respects unfavorable to the alpha-particle model of the nucleus inasmuch as they contradict the assumptions often made when this model is applied.

Patient-Specific Alpha-Particle Dosimetry

Current Radiopharmaceuticalse, 2011
Alpha-particle therapy has received increased attention during the last few years because of the development of new targeting constructs and new labeling techniques and the availability of suitable α-particle - emitting radionuclides. This work provides an overview of methods that have been used in clinical trials in estimating the absorbed dose to ...

Track Nanodosimetry of an Alpha Particle

Radiation Protection Dosimetry, 2002
Experimental measurements and calculations are described of ionisation distributions in propane wall-less gas cavities of about 20 nm simulated size, performed at different distances from a 244Cm alpha particle track. Ionisation events are detected one by one by collecting electrons from the sensitive volume and by separating them with a drift column ...

Alpha-Particle Resonance

Physical Review, 1964
S>A phase-ehift analysis of the elastic p-t cross section in the energy range 0.1 to 0.76 Mev was made. It is shown that the low peak observed at 0.3 Mev is consistent with a 0/sup plus or minus / resonance at 0.5 plus or minus 0.1 Mev. The shape of the observed cusp in the p-t elastic cross section at the threshold energy of the n-He/sup 3/ channel is

Alpha-Particles within Nuclei

Few-Body Systems, 2012
We present a formalism describing the bound state of a large number of bosons and apply it to study nuclei consisting of A α particles. The method has its roots in a few-body approach and is based on the expansion of the many-body Faddeev components in Potential Harmonics, and the subsequent reduction of the Faddeev equation into a two-variable ...

Simple alpha particle detector

American Journal of Physics, 1985
An alpha detector that can be used in a lecture hall is described. The device is a spark counter consisting of a length of 4−mil wire. (AIP)

Alpha-particle reactions

Acta Physica Hungarica A) Heavy Ion Physics, 1995
Recent work using the concept of alpha-clustering in studies of nuclear structure and nuclear reactions is reviewed. The high symmetry and binding energy of the alpha-particle makes it likely that nucleons inside the nucleus can condense into alpha particles and live long enough to affect many properties of nuclei and also the cross-sections of nuclear
