Niche occupancy of Jamaican bat caves: Diversity increases isotopic niche packing

Tropical bat caves are home to hundreds of thousands of bats of multiple species. In Jamaica, we found that isotopic niche packing is the likely mechanism of coexistence at more diverse sites. Abstract There are over 1000 documented caves across Jamaica, many of them used by diverse communities of bats.

Abstract This paper assesses the role of borrowings in two different approaches to linguistic phylogenetics: Traditional qualitative analyses of lexemes, and quantitative computational analysis of cognacy. It problematises the assumption that loanwords can be excluded altogether from datasets of lexical cognacy.

Integration Through Rights: Towards an Associational Paradigm

Integration policies in the EU and the UK have over the past two decades increasingly emphasised duties and constraints for migrants. This article challenges the duty‐based model and proposes an alternative legal conception: ‘integration through rights’, with associational rights taking a central role.

School Board Elections in England and Wales, 1870–1902: An Electoral Experiment?

Abstract The 1870 Elementary Education Act enabled the creation of school boards in England and Wales. Members were directly elected by the cumulative vote. This method gave each individual voter as many votes as there were seats on a school board, in some cases up to fifteen.
