Can Law Manufacture a Party System? The Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands Experience with Party‐Strengthening Legislation

Two western Pacific states — the Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea (PNG) — experimented with unusual and ambitious reforms aimed at strengthening political parties in the new millennium. In this paper, we look at what those laws entailed and how they worked in practice. In both cases, we find that unforeseen repercussions dominated.

Abstract The Seychelles magpie‐robin's (SMR) five island populations exhibit some of the lowest recorded levels of genetic diversity among endangered birds, and high levels of inbreeding. These populations collapsed during the 20th century, and the species was listed as Critically Endangered in the IUCN Red List in 1994.

Abstract Antarctic ice cores reveal a glacial climate state during Marine Isotope Stage 3 (MIS‐3; 57–29 ka) punctuated by millennial‐scale warming events and pulses of CO2. This study further explores how changes in Southern Ocean carbon cycling contributed to these millennial‐scale fluctuations in climate.
