ECOLOGY AND STATE OF THE ALPINE GRASSLANDS OF WESTLAND
To write of tussock grasslands in Westland may seem a little strange when one usually associates tussock grassland with the mountain ranges, valleys and hills on the eastern side of the main divide. But tussock grasslands above the tree-line probably total 20% of the area of Westland. No pastoral use is made of this country.

In this study, we compared two sampling approaches to assess autumn freezing resistance. Our goal was to determine whether the commonly employed cutting method, which disrupts root‐tissue connectivity, provides a valid measure of true freezing resistance.

The effect of awns on seed yield and germination characteristics in Elymus nutans Griseb.
The effect of awns on seed yield. Three‐year field trials demonstrated that awns significantly regulate seed yield components and germination characteristics of Elymus nutans Griseb, laying a theoretical foundation for the breeding of high‐yielding forage varieties and seed production.

We evaluated habitat characteristics of spring migration routes and stopover sites for adult female elk (Cervus canadensis), mule deer (Odocoileus hemionus), and pronghorn (Antilocapra americana) in the San Juan Mountains (2021–2022) and found species‐specific differences in vegetation structure, terrain, and proximity to land cover types relative to ...

A survey of 426 Italian farmers reveals that tolerance toward wolves varies geographically, with northern regions showing less acceptance. Negative intentions were linked to poor knowledge, while use of preventive methods fostered positive beliefs. These findings highlight the need for region‐specific, socially informed wolf management strategies in ...

ABSTRACT Root exudates serve as a key driver for the restoration of soil organic carbon (SOC), particularly in aeolian desertification ecosystems where aboveground litter retention is limited. While Salix cupularis is widely planted as an effective pioneer shrub for ecological rehabilitation on the Qinghai‐Tibet Plateau, how the quantity of its root ...

Interconnected Microbial Communities in Alpine Grassland Ecosystems
Soils in cold and high-elevation environments are complex ecosystems composed of multiple, co-occurring biological entities that each harbor distinct microbial communities. Traditional perspectives often examine soil microbial diversity as separate from the microbial communities of the organisms that inhabit it. Here, we seek to challenge such view and

ABSTRACT The equilibrium between ecosystem service supply and demand relationships (ESSDR) is essential for regional sustainable development. Understanding the relationship between human activity intensity (HAI) and ESSDR from the perspective of land use transformation (LT) is important for ecological management and governance.

ABSTRACT Soil organic carbon (SOC), as a key indicator of global carbon cycling and climate change response, plays a critical role in regional ecological security and agricultural sustainability. This study employs three machine learning models including the LightGBM, XGBoost, and random forest to simulate the spatial distribution of topsoil SOC stocks
