Alpine Space Prospective Study. Sustainable territorial development in the Alpine Space: Towards long term transnational cooperation [PDF]
This "Prospective Study" argues that a long term transnational cooperation will be able to pursue the sustainable territorial development in the Alpine Space only at the condition of a substantial improvement of the current experience.

Plant community dynamics during the growing season of typical ecosystems on the Tibetan Plateau
The relationships between vegetation and environmental factors have always been a core concern of ecologists. The dynamic characteristics of plant communities during the growing season can directly reflect these relationships, so we examined this issue ...

The projected risk of plant invasions on the peri‐Antarctic islands under climate change
The peri‐Antarctic islands have largely been shielded from alien plant species due to low human pressure, limited introduction pathways, and local harsh climates. However, climate change is expected to lower these barriers. We assess the vulnerability of 12 peri‐Antarctic islands to invasion by 2220 plant species invasive in at least one region of the ...

Effects of soil C:N:P stoichiometry on biomass allocation in the alpine and arid steppe systems
AbstractSoil nutrients strongly influence biomass allocation. However, few studies have examined patterns induced by soil C:N:P stoichiometry in alpine and arid ecosystems. Samples were collected from 44 sites with similar elevation along the 220‐km transect at spatial intervals of 5 km along the northern Tibetan Plateau.

Restoration reseeding of degraded alpine meadows increased aboveground vegetation but was associated with short‐term topsoil carbon loss, coinciding with a microbial strategy shift from resident carbon‐preserving to carbon‐spending bacterial guilds. Abstract Background Restoration of degraded ecosystems is widely promoted as a nature‐based solution ...

ABSTRACT Grassland degradation profoundly alters the structure and function of desert steppe ecosystems. However, the responses of herbaceous aboveground biomass (Herb‐AGB) to degradation across different plant community types and the underlying mechanisms remain poorly understood.

Topographic and Climatic Determinants of Soil Organic Carbon Across Landscapes: A Meta‐Analysis
ABSTRACT The soil is the greatest natural store of organic carbon, holding between 1500 to 1550 Pg C of organic carbon at the top 100 cm of the soil globally—roughly twice the carbon pool in the atmosphere. The spatial distribution of this stock is controlled by a complex chain of controls: topographic position regulates the hydrological redistribution,
