Mycotoxin management in the cereal supply chain: Advanced detection, detoxification, and smart packaging strategies

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract Mycotoxins remain a persistent threat to the safety and quality of cereal grains and other agricultural products, and their impact on human health continues to raise global concerns. In many situations, the practices traditionally used to control these toxins are no longer sufficiently effective. They can be costly, difficult to implement on a

Endophytic fungi from two isolated Bethencourtia palmensis populations: metabolomic and bioactivity fingerprinting

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
We compared two island populations of Bethencourtia palmensis and their culturable endophytic fungi, revealing distinct plant chemistries and a higher biopesticidal potential in the endophytic fungi from La Palma population along with high potential for the discovery of novel compounds.

Effect of bioagents on cucumber seed mycoflora, seed germination, and seedling vigour

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
The effect of different bioagents such as Trichoderma harzianum, T. viride, T. virens, Pseudomonas fluorescens, and Bacillus subtilis was studied on seed mycoflora, seed germination, root/shoot length, and seedling vigour of cucumber var.

Combined application of Bacillus velezensis JDB15 and Trichoderma harzianum JDL4 suppresses banana Fusarium wilt under controlled conditions

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
The surfactin C secreted by JDB15 and the probable parasitism of JDL4 lead to the leakage of intracellular macromolecules and the degradation of hyphae, respectively. Combined application of the two strains effectively controls banana Fusarium wilt under controlled conditions.

Alternaria muriformis sp. nov., a New Species in Section Chalastospora Isolated from Herbivore Dung in Spain [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
In a survey of the mycobiota from the dung of herbivorous animals collected in natural areas in Spain, an Alternaria isolate was found. Morphological data and a multi-locus phylogenetic approach carried out through Maximum Likelihood and Bayesian ...

Small-Spored Alternaria Species (Pleosporales, Pleosporaceae) Associated with Cucurbitaceae in China

open access: yesJournal of Fungi
Cucurbitaceous plants comprise a wide range of economically important vegetable and fruit crops. In this study, Alternaria species associated with Cucurbitaceae were investigated using an integrative approach combining multilocus phylogenetic analyses ...

Biocontrol and plant growth‐promoting potential of Streptomyces strains against fungal pathogens of tomato and wheat for a sustainable agriculture

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
This study highlights the biocontrol potential of Streptomyces strain Strep_22. In vitro, it inhibits key fungal pathogens by 91.52%. In vivo, it significantly reduces disease incidence in wheat and tomato while enhancing biomass, shoot, and root development, offering a highly promising, sustainable ecological alternative to chemical pesticides ...

Discovery and characterisation of succinate dehydrogenase inhibitor resistance in Plenodomus biglobosus (phoma stem canker of oilseed rape)

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
SDHI resistance is reported and characterised for the first time in the oilseed rape phoma stem canker pathogen Plenodomus biglobosus (Leptosphaeria biglobosa). We investigate cross‐resistance patterns, associated SDH target‐site mutations, possible fitness costs, and consider the implications for disease and resistance management.
