Endotrivial modules over groups with quaternion or semi-dihedral Sylow 2-subgroup. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Let G be a finite group with a Sylow 2-subgroup P which is either quaternion or semi-dihedral. Let k be an algebraically closed field of characteristic 2.

Epilepsy‐Associated Variants of a Single SCN1A Codon Exhibit Divergent Functional Properties

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Pathogenic variants in SCN1A, which encodes the voltage‐gated sodium channel NaV1.1, are associated with multiple epilepsy syndromes exhibiting a range of clinical severity. SCN1A variants are reported in different syndromes, including Dravet syndrome, which is associated with loss‐of‐function, whereas neonatal/infantile‐onset ...

On Huppert\u27s Conjecture for Alternating Groups of Low Degrees

open access: yes, 2015
Bertram Huppert conjectured in the late 1990s that the nonabelian simple groups are determined up to an abelian direct factor by the set of their character degrees.

Alternating subgroups of exceptional groups of Lie type [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
In this paper, we examine embeddings of alternating and symmetric groups into almost simple groups of exceptional type. In particular, we prove that if the alternating or symmetric group has degree equal to 5, or 8 or more, then it cannot appear as the ...

A Depolarizing Leak in Sodium Bicarbonate Cotransporter NBCe1 Causes Brain Edema

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives SLC4A4 encodes electrogenic sodium bicarbonate cotransporter NBCe1, prominently expressed in kidney and brain. Recessive loss‐of‐function variants in SLC4A4 cause proximal renal tubular acidosis, no brain edema. In the brain, NBCe1 is expressed by astrocytes, where it regulates pH and mediates astrocyte volume changes.

Immunoadsorption plasma exchange combination for treatment of myasthenic deterioration

open access: yesTherapeutic Advances in Neurological Disorders, 2016
Objectives: The goal of this study was to analyze safety and assess the efficacy of standard plasma exchange (PE) compared with immunoadsorption (IA) alone, or an alternating combination of both in deteriorating myasthenia gravis (MG).

5,10,10,15,20,20-Hexamethylcalix[4]pyrrole 5,15-diethyl diester

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section E, 2009
In the title compound, C32H40N4O4, the pyrrole rings and ester groups adopt a 1,3-alternate conformation in which the alternating pyrrole and ester units are in opposite directions.

Base sizes for sporadic simple groups

open access: yes, 2010
Let G be a permutation group acting on a set . A subset of is a base for G ifits pointwise stabilizer in G is trivial. We write b(G) for the minimal size of a base forG.

Comparison of Gelfand-Tsetlin Bases for Alternating and Symmetric Groups [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Young’s orthogonal basis is a classical basis for an irreducible representation of a symmetric group. This basis happens to be a Gelfand-Tsetlin basis for the chain of symmetric groups. It is well-known that the chain of alternating groups, just like the
