The present study investigated vowel harmony (VH) in two varieties of Peninsular Spanish - Eastern Andalusian and Montañes. Despite both varieties exhibiting VH, the triggers and targets for each variety result in metaphonic alternations that are quite ...

Alternators of a right alternative algebra [PDF]
We show that in any right alternative algebra, the additive span of the alternators is nearly an ideal. We give an easy test to use to determine if a given set of additional identities will imply that the span of the alternators is an ideal. We apply our technique to the class of right alternative algebras satisfying the condition

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

The lowering of high vowels before [r] in Latin
This paper discusses a putative sound change in the early history of Latin and synchronic alternations apparently related to it. The lowering of short high vowels before the rhotic is problematic on several counts; so much so that serious doubt has been ...

Concerning Inflection Classes in Livonian; pp. 12-26 [PDF]
Livonian has among the Finnic languages characteristically the Âgreatest variety of optional inflectional ending variants and the most complicated system of morphophonological alternations.

Alternating, private alternating, and quantum alternating realtime automata
We present new results on realtime alternating, private alternating, and quantum alternating automaton models. Firstly, we show that the emptiness problem for alternating one-counter automata on unary alphabets is undecidable. Then, we present two equivalent definitions of realtime private alternating finite automata (PAFAs). We show that the emptiness

Interpreting the effects of DNA polymerase variants at the structural level
Using MAVISp and molecular dynamics simulations, we analyzed over 60 000 missense variants in POLE and POLD1 from ClinVar, COSMIC, cBioPortal, and saturation mutagenesis. Identified mechanistic indicators, including stability, binding, and long‐range, enable structural interpretation, providing ACMG‐like evidence for possible reclassification of VUS ...

The relation between phones and phonemes on examples from Pāli
The issue of the paper is, first, to describe the concept of an allophonic number, second, to confront the allophony both in Vedic and in Pāli, and third, to express different allophony in both languages with the use of allophonic numbers.
