On Exact and Approximate Solutions for Hard Problems: An Alternative Look [PDF]
We discuss in an informal, general audience style the da Costa-Doria conjecture about the independence of the P = NP hypothesis and try to briefly assess its impact on practical situations in economics.

Facet‐Specific PbS Quantum Dot Passivation Using Halide Perovskites for SWIR Photodetectors
PbS quantum dots (QDs) are emerging as powerful short‐wave infrared photodetectors, yet the passivation mechanism of large QDs by perovskites ‐ critical for their stability ‐ remains unexplained. Here, we unveil the ligand structure of CH3NH3PbI3 (MAPI)‐passivated 4‐nm PbS QDs using FTIR, XPS, SEM, NMR, and DFT.

Model checking for partially linear models with missing responses at random
In this paper, we investigate the model checking problem for a partial linear model while some responses are missing at random. By imputation and marginal inverse probability weighted methods, two completed data sets are constructed.

Market efficiency and the Euro: the case of the Athens Stock Exchange
The efficient market hypothesis (EMH) is tested in the case of the Athens Stock Exchange (ASE) after the introduction of the euro. The underlying assumption is that stock prices would be more transparent; their performance easier to compare; the ...

Automated Reliability Estimation over Partial Systematic Explorations
—Model-based reliability estimation of software sys-tems can provide useful insights early in the development process. However, computational complexity of estimating reliability met-rics such as mean time to first failure (MTTF) can be prohibitive both ...

Parallel wiring of bioelectrochemical devices with conventional generators unexpectedly boosts output. A biophotovoltaic paired with a solar cell delivers up to 50% more power at low loads than their separate contributions; a plant microbial fuel cell shows similar current gains.

eco: R Package for Ecological Inference in 2x2 Tables
eco is a publicly available R package that implements the Bayesian and likelihood methods proposed in Imai, Lu, and Strauss (2008b) for ecological inference in 2 X 2 tables as well as the method of bounds introduced by (Duncan and Davis'53).

Simulating the referential properties of Dutch, German and English Root Infinitives in MOSAIC
Children learning many languages go through an Optional Infinitive stage in which they produce non-finite verb forms in contexts in which a finite verb form is required (e.g. ‘That go there’ instead of ‘That goes there’).
