Is gratitude an alternative to materialism?
Journal of Happiness Studies, 2006Materialistic strivings have been implicated as a cause of unhappiness. Gratitude, on the other hand – both in its manifestations as a chronic affective trait and as a more temporary emotional experience – may be a cause of happiness. In the present paper we review the empirical research on the relationships among materialism, gratitude, and well-being.

Asbestos and Alternative Materials
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2014Asbestos is the trade name of material widely used in construction, especially in BRICS members. The high usage of asbestos due to its low cost coupled with their properties, such as electrical resistance, tensile strength, heat resistance and some acids, in addition to its flexibility derived from its fibrous feature, which allows it to be woven ...

Alternative Materials for Fracture Fixation
Connective Tissue Research, 1995Biodegradable polymers are gaining acceptance as alternative materials to metallic devices in fracture fixation applications. Self-reinforced polyglycolide and polylactide fixation devices have been used effectively in managing several thousand clinical cases involving small-fragment fractures.

Concrete, an Alternative Material
Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, 1978If ordinary Portland cement had been an expensive product it would still have been widely used, but much more highly respected. While its dominant use is as a structural material in civil engineering there are many other applications that can be made in which cement-based materials are economically and technically sound.

Alternative materials for three endosseous implants
The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 1989Three endosseous post-type implant geometries were evaluated: a serrated solid with a 2-degree taper and a rectangular cross section, a cylindrical screw-type solid, and a finned solid with a 1-degree 9' taper and a circular cross section. Each implant geometry was analyzed with 10 different moduli of elasticity.

The Acquisition of Alternative Materials
Collection Building, 1980As is true of so much that we read and hear, neither of these statements is wholly accurate. While the Association of American Publishers may not have a position in favor of increasing conglomeration in the publishing industry, it is most certainly not opposed to it. As others have noted in this handbook, the growing domination of publishing by a small
