Impact of molecular diagnostics and targeted cancer therapy on patient outcomes (MODIFY): a retrospective study of the implementation of precision oncology

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The authors conducted a retrospective study of 94 patients with advanced cancer who underwent next‐generation sequencing (NGS) gene panel analysis and received targeted treatments when applicable. Results further support evidence indicating that molecular profiling provides clinical benefit.

Detection rate for ESR1 mutations is higher in circulating‐tumor‐cell‐derived genomic DNA than in paired plasma cell‐free DNA samples as revealed by ddPCR

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Analysis of ESR1 mutations in plasma cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) is highly important for the selection of treatment in patients with breast cancer. Using multiplex‐ddPCR and identical blood draws, we investigated whether circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and cfDNA provide similar or complementary information for ESR1 mutations.

Robust acute myeloid leukemia engraftment in humanized scaffolds using injectable biomaterials and intravenous xenotransplantation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Patient‐derived xenografts (PDXs) can be improved by implantation of a humanized niche. We tested different biomaterials and approaches, and demonstrate that the combination of an injectable biomaterial for scaffold creation plus an intravenous route for acute myeloid leukemia (AML) xenotransplantation provide the most convenient and robust approach to

Music Therapy - A Dynamtc Treatment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Music therapy is a type of complementary therapy. Alternative and complementary medicine is the name generally given to those medical and health care systems, practices and products that are not presently considered to be the part of conventional Western

KMT2A degradation is observed in decitabine‐responsive acute lymphoblastic leukemia cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We demonstrate that decitabine (DEC) not only degrades the DNA methyltransferase DNMT1 but also the leukemic driver lysine methyltransferase KMT2A likely due to structural similarity of the DNA‐binding CXXC domains. DEC influences KMT2A downstream processes and synergizes with menin inhibitor revumenib (REV) to decrease leukemic cell proliferation, and

The potential role of AI agents in transforming nuclear medicine research and cancer management in India [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
India faces a significant cancer burden, with an incidence-to-mortality ratio indicating that nearly three out of five individuals diagnosed with cancer succumb to the disease. While the limitations of physical healthcare infrastructure are widely acknowledged as a primary challenge, concerted efforts by government and healthcare agencies are underway ...

Estimation of Gaussian mixtures in small sample studies using $l_1$ penalization [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2009
Many experiments in medicine and ecology can be conveniently modeled by finite Gaussian mixtures but face the problem of dealing with small data sets. We propose a robust version of the estimator based on self-regression and sparsity promoting penalization in order to estimate the components of Gaussian mixtures in such contexts.

Cystatin A promotes the antitumor activity of T helper type 1 cells and dendritic cells in murine models of pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a disease with very poor prognosis due to therapeutic limitations. We investigated the antitumor effects of cystatin A (CSTA) in PDAC murine models. We are first to confirm that CSTA enhances T helper type 1‐mediated antitumor effects through promotion of dendritic cells and M1 macrophage activity. CSTA can be

Beta-binomial/gamma-Poisson regression models for repeated counts with random parameters [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2010
Beta-binomial/Poisson models have been used by many authors to model multivariate count data. Lora and Singer (Statistics in Medicine, 2008) extended such models to accommodate repeated multivariate count data with overdipersion in the binomial component.
