Radar First Echo Detection With Spaceborne Precipitation Radars

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 130, Issue 24, 28 December 2025.
Abstract The radar “first echo” appears in a fresh growing cloud when hydrometeors grow to large enough sizes to be detected by radar. Using 26‐year observations by the Ku band radars onboard the Global Precipitation Mission and the Tropical Rainfall Measurement Mission satellites, isolated pixels with detectable radar echoes at altitude and without ...

Moisture Sources of Precipitation Using Convection‐Permitting Simulations: A Study Over South America

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 52, Issue 23, 16 December 2025.
Abstract Climatological analyses of moisture sources of precipitation have traditionally relied on reanalyses or models that parameterize convection. Convection‐permitting models (CPMs) are increasingly used in climate studies, as they better represent many precipitation processes than non‐CPMs.

Plant clonal morphologies and spatial patterns as self-organized responses to resource-limited environments

open access: yes, 2014
We propose here to interpret and model peculiar plant morphologies (cushions, tussocks) observed in the Andean altiplano as localized structures. Such structures resulting in a patchy, aperiodic aspect of the vegetation cover are hypothesized to self ...

Altiplano. Fragments d'une révolution (Bolivie 1999-2019)

open access: yes, 2021

The Diamesinae (Diptera: Chironomidae) in High‐Altitude Andean Streams Using Morphological and Molecular Approaches

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 12, December 2025.
Diamesinae is one of the 11 subfamilies of Chironomidae, characterized by its preference for cold waters, typically found in mountainous regions. For the genus Limaya, two OTUs were identified using all methods, one for Ecuador and one for Peru. Seven OTUs were identified for the genus Paraheptagyia.

Quando as fronteiras transnacionalizam as pessoas: repensar o transnacionalismo migrante na tríplice fronteira andina [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
This article derives from ethnographic studies developed in the Northern Chilean territories that lie adjacent to Peru and Bolivia. The research results suggest that the daily activities of transborder inhabitants generate frictions between the local ...

The Central Andean Altiplano‐Puna magma body

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 1999
Receiver function analysis of 14 teleseismic events recorded by 6 temporary PASSCAL broadband stations within the Altiplano‐Puna volcanic complex (APVC) shows a consistent ∼2 s negative‐polarity P‐to‐S conversion for all stations for all available azimuths.

Headwater drainage evolution in a foreland basin system using surfaces and topographic metrics (Zadorra River, Upper Ebro, Spain)

open access: yesEarth Surface Processes and Landforms, Volume 50, Issue 15, December 2025.
Headwater drainage evolution in the Ebro foreland basin system from N Spain, including the Zadorra River drainage system and its relationships with the Arakil River. Abstract Foreland basins are elongate depressions that develop around the flanks of collisional mountain ranges.
