Range‐Parallel Extension of the Andes in the 2020 Mw 5.7 Humahuaca Earthquake

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 130, Issue 12, December 2025.
Abstract Normal‐faulting earthquakes in mountain ranges provide important constraints on the dynamics of mountain building. To date, well‐documented examples of range‐parallel extension come primarily from the Tibetan Plateau, limiting our ability to test different models for its cause.

Can Non‐Euclidean Distances Improve Spatial Interpolation of Precipitation in Mountainous Regions?

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, Volume 45, Issue 13, 15 November 2025.
The presented non‐Euclidean distances aim to better represent spatial separation in mountainous regions. Three non‐Euclidean distance metrics are evaluated. An interpolation method combining a linear precipitation‐elevation profile with residual interpolation is tested.

Endemic human fasciolosis in the Bolivian Altiplano

open access: yesEpidemiology and Infection, 2006
SUMMARYFasciolosis, caused by trematodes of the genusFasciola, is an emerging disease of humans. One of the highest levels of human fasciolosis hepatica is found amongst the indigenous Aymaran people of the Northern Bolivian Altiplano. A meta-analysis of epidemiological surveys from 38 communities in the region demonstrates that fasciolosis has been ...

Body temperatures of modern and extinct vertebrates from ^(13)C-^(18)O bond abundances in bioapatite [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The stable isotope compositions of biologically precipitated apatite in bone, teeth, and scales are widely used to obtain information on the diet, behavior, and physiology of extinct organisms and to reconstruct past climate.

Plateau‐style accumulation of deformation: Southern Altiplano

open access: yesTectonics, 2005
Employing surface mapping of syntectonic sediments, interpretation of industry reflection‐seismic profiles, gravity data, and isotopic age dating, we reconstruct the tectonic evolution of the southern Altiplano (∼20–22°S) between the cordilleras defining its margins.
