Resource reallocation across successive systemic innovations: How Rolls‐Royce shaped the evolution of the turbojet, turboprop, and turbofan

open access: yesStrategic Management Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Research Summary Despite the importance of resource reallocation in shaping a variety of strategic outcomes, strategy scholars have paid only limited attention to the processes by which firms reallocate their resources across successive systemic innovations.

A measure for the chirality of triangles [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2010
A measure for the description of the chirality of triangles is introduced. The measure $X\delta$ is zero for triangles with at least one mirror axe, i.e. equilateral or isosceles triangles, and positive or negative for scalane, i.e. left or right handed triangles, respectively.

Systematics of Planchonella Pierre: The largest Sapotaceae genus in subfamily Chrysophylloideae

open access: yesTAXON, EarlyView.
Abstract Planchonella is the largest genus in subfamily Chrysophylloideae (Sapotaceae), believed to circumscribe about 110 species, occurring throughout tropical Asia, Australia, and Oceania, as well as the Seychelles and Hawaii. Previous studies have confirmed the monophyly of Planchonella but also identified problems such as species limits of the ...

Taxonomy and dated molecular phylogeny of Allium oreophilum sensu lato (A. subg. Porphyroprason) uncover a surprising number of cryptic taxa

open access: yesTAXON, EarlyView.
Abstract Allium oreophilum, hitherto the representative of the monotypic A. subg. Porphyroprason from the second evolutionary lineage of Allium, is studied in detail. Over about 150 years, A. oreophilum was regarded as a somewhat polymorphous species with two synonyms, all described in the 19th century.

Heron isosceles with integral external radii [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2008
Each triangle has three exterior or external circles tangential to the three straight lines containing the three sides of the triangle.Among the preliminaries in this paper, is deriving formulas for the radii of the three exterior circles in terms of the triangle's sidelengths. After that we focus on Heron triangles.

Resolving taxa in a challenging orchid species complex using evidence from phylogenetics, morphometrics and floral scent chemistry

open access: yesTAXON, EarlyView.
Abstract Species can be difficult to circumscribe using morphology alone, and additional data can thus be useful for resolving challenging species complexes. Here we provide a case study of a South African orchid species complex which we resolved by analysing morphology, floral scent chemistry and molecular data.

Tilings of an Isosceles Triangle

open access: yes, 2019
An N-tiling of triangle ABC by triangle T is a way of writing ABC as a union of N trianglescongruent to T, overlapping only at their boundaries. The triangle T is the "tile". The tile may or may not be similar to ABC.

An observational study of a circular gust front over the Yangtze Delta, China

open access: yesWeather, EarlyView.
Concentric gust fronts are formed when a thunderstorm's downdraft reaches the ground and the outflow from the cold pool spreads uniformly outwards into the surrounding warm and humid air mass. Observational evidence presented here show the case of narrow‐band echoes forming a ring around a thunderstorm.

Winter browsing by moose (Alces alces) in a forested mountainous landscape of west–central Sweden

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
Browsing ecology involving ungulates and their food resource is complex as consumption may reflect responses to various factors, such as quantity and quality of browse species. This study investigated winter browsing by moose Alces alces in a mountainous landscape of west–central Sweden, characterized by Norway spruce Picea abies production forests ...

Benefit or ecological trap? Monitoring the effects of small clear‐cuts on capercaillie Tetrao urogallus and its mammalian predators

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
The shift to ‘close to nature forestry' as the dominating forestry regime in western‐European forests has resulted in increasing timber volume and denser forests with negative effects on photophilic species. Hence, there is an increasing focus on active habitat management measures to support these species.
