In particular, the petrogenesis, magma source, and tectonic implications of the ultramafic to mafic rocks in the North Qiangtang area are underinvestigated due to their sparsity and remoteness.

To better constrain the ongoing rates of deformation in northern Tibet, the ages of fluvial and glacial geomorphic markers left‐laterally displaced by the Altyn Tagh Fault have been determined by radiocarbon and 10Be‐26Al cosmic ray exposure dating. Two sites were investigated: Cherchen He and Sulamu Tagh, both near Tura (∼37.6°N, 86.6°E).

Evidence for Mesozoic shear along the western Kunlun and Altyn‐Tagh fault, northern Tibet (China) [PDF]
The strike‐slip faults of north Tibet accommodate part of the Cenozoic convergence between India and Asia. Along the Karakax valley south of Yecheng and near the Xidatan trough south of Golmud, the active traces of the Altyn‐Tagh and Kunlun faults follow narrow belts of metamorphic rocks.

Abstract The 2025 destructive Myanmar earthquake ruptured the previously recognized seismic gap along the Sagaing fault, with the longest ever recorded surface ruptures (∼ ${\sim} $500 km).
